LET'S TALK ABOUT "YOUR" JOBS
Nealz Nuze ^ | Wednesday, February 18, 2004 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 02/18/2004 5:12:57 AM PST by beaureguard

Jobs .. and the economy. Those seem to be the issues that are driving many, if not most, of those who are supporting the Kerry candidacy.

First of all ... I'm going to repeat this simply because it makes the whiners so unbelievably angry. Listen up. They're not your jobs! The jobs belong to the employers .. not to you! You have job skills and, presumably, a willingness to work. Your task in a free economy is to get out there and find some employer with a job who needs your skills ... and strike a deal.

If you do not have the particular set of job skills that an employer needs, of if you have priced your labor out of the marketplace, guess what? It's not the employer's fault. The fault lies with you. Either develop a new set of job skills that are actually in demand, or adjust your pricing. The employer knows what he's looking for you. If you're not it .. it's your problem, not his.

Now ... you say you're going to vote for a Democrat this year because of jobs? You mean to tell me that you're going to vote against George Bush this year because you don't have a set of job skills that are in demand in our free marketplace? Yeah .. that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

Tell me. Just what do you want the president to do? You information technology people out there .. just what are you demanding? Do you want companies to stop outsourcing IT jobs to India? OK ... tell me how to do that. These companies aren't shipping parts overseas and completed products back. All they do is ship information overseas by phone lines or the Internet. Then that information is modified and shipped back the same way. What do you want the government .. the president to do? Do you want some federal law that prohibits companies from transmitting information overseas by the Internet, having that information transformed or modified, and then shipped back? And tell me just how do you enforce that law? Does that law then apply to you also if you seek information from a company that is located overseas, thus depriving a domestic company of your business?

Ditto for manufacturing. I've already told you the story about the California company that makes computer mouses. (computer mice?) This company ships the components to China. The mouse is assembled in China and shipped back, then sold for around $40. Why? Because the assembly is cheaper in China than it would be in the US. So, you say you want the president to force this company to have that mouse assembled in the US? Fine .. then the price for the mouse goes up to about $70 a pop and sales drop. As the sales drop the jobs of the people in this country who manufacture the components for that mouse go away. Then the 100 marketing jobs this company supports in California also go away. You see, perhaps you can succeed in forcing this company to assemble these mouses in the US, but there just isn't any way you can force the American consumer to pay 80% more for the "made in America" version.

As Bruce Bartlett says in an article listed in my reading assignments, "No nation has ever gotten rich by forcing its citizens to pay more for domestic goods and services that could have been procured more cheaply abroad."

What we are seeing here is a demonstration of the "government owes me" mentality of far too many Americans. Every time you arrive at a speed bump in your life's journey you start screaming to the government for help. Sure, the speed bump is going to slow you down a bit ... but just keep moving forward and things inevitably pick up speed again. Americans are becoming helpless whiners. The more helpless you are, and the more you whine, the more likely it is you're going to vote for a Democrat. Democrats specialize in stroking the malcontent.

Congratulations, whiners. At a time when America if fighting World War IV, the war against Islamic terrorism ... you're going to vote for a candidate who wants to treat terrorism as a freaking law enforcement problem because you've made some pitiful jobs choices. Pitiful.

Private property is a moral reality which exists PRIOR TO LAW OR ANY SOCIAL CONTRACT, which the rest of society is morally obligated to revere by law.

The first dogma of the market religion - the religion of Mammon and golden calf. Why your god needs reverence and protection from the society? Can't he defend and sustain himself?

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

Psalm 115, 4-8

Boortz hits a homer again!

WHAT A LAMER!!!

Let's say it is WWIV...well, in WWII, "employers" couldn't hire without the 'blessing' of the War Production Board...and couldn't produce ANYTHING without Permission. IBM was FORCED, against it's will [Board of Directors], to produce in excess of 100,000+ M1 and M2 Carbines...do it or, suddenly the board gets replaced by the Military...so it Ain't IBM's jobs!

Fast forward to the 1950's and the COLD WAR [aka WWIII]...Illegal Mexican Aliens threatening American Jobs...Eisenhower launched "Operation Wetback" and tossed more than 1 MILLION over the border...at Tank Point...Yep, he used the Military!!

You see, if the Jobs aren't ours, then the Political Support [read votes] for the WAR just isn't there...exactly what is happening to SHRUB!!!

Yet, some Pompous A** of a talkshow host is, by his Rantings, pointing out to EVERYONE just how out of it this group of Republican Bozos are!!

If you look at Wisconsin...Republicans turned out IN DROVES to vote for Edwards.

Right, keep believing that the Republicans are doing this for "Strategery"!

REALITY IS Shrub has worn out his welcome on the Economic Front...something no Wartime Leader worth his salt would EVER do!!!

BUSH is a ONE TERMER!!!

FINE, let the President and the Republican party run on a platform of "Billions for CEO's, Crumbs and Economic Ruin for the Rest" and see how far they get.

The Rats have already picked up this ball and are running with it while Mr Bush has said through his economic adviser that getting rid of high-paying American jobs is a good thing. Mr Bush has also said through his illegal Mexican amnesty bill that getting rid of low-paying American jobs is a good thing as well!

That about covers it all, eh?

We will see how well this plays out in the fall.

If he doesn't change the perceptions out there then Bush (and conservatives) will be handing this election to Kerry and the Rats on a silver platter. This issue is a political minefield. And it seems like the Republicans are blundering around through it like a blind man without a cane, and cheerfully and willingly sticking their necks in the noose the Rats are dangling before them.

My fear is that this will play out in such a way that we'll have President Kerry and a Rat House and Senate. Then the so-called free traders will get exactly what they don't want, oppressive government regulation, restrictive trade policies, higher taxes, and more bureaucracy. Which is a hell of a lot worse than anything anyone on FR has ever suggested.

Bush really needs to distance himself from the idiot comments people are making about how it is good that people are losing their jobs to foreign sources and suffering as a result, that it is somehow good that the industrial, technological, and intellectual capital of the country is either being sold out in the marketplace or allowed to decay away. Bush has made a good start with the speech he made the other day about being more concerned with people rather than numbers. He has to demonstrate some leadership on this issue, something that makes an impression on real people who honestly fear for their jobs, because those people are going to cast their vote more influenced by what their gut tells them than by what some government bureaucrat-bean counter says.

This has far more scope than your narrow little self interests. This is a direct attack on nationalism and strip mining America of it's sovereignty, manufacturing and industrial base. That you would sacrifice it all for your bottom line, instead of demanding protection from outside competition while America still has the power of being the largest consumer speaks to your ignorance of the bottom, bottom line.

If the US is a becoming a nation of whining losers, it deserves what it gets. At some point, it will partition into people who want to learn and work and those who don't. It will probably be Civil War 2.

Exactly! I'm tired of hearing about the how there millions, maybe tens of millions of unemployed. Gimme a break. Yes there are probably some people out there who are down on their luck who can't get work. But the unemployment rate is 5.6%. That's pretty low. Do we really want everyone working. What % of the 5.6% is made up of truly unemployables or incompetents? I'm sick of hearing that this is the worst economy in 50 years. Damn Dims (and some FReepers)

I'm scratchin my head. Supply & demand of the product and/or service determines whether I need to hire or not.

The employer and product\service generally exist before the need to hire exists.

What's your point ?

"Jobs...and the economy. Those seem to be the issues that are driving many, if not most, of those who are supporting the Kerry candidacy."

Very first sentence says it all, kiddo.

One can agree or argue this until they're blue in the face, but, as far as I'm concerned this issue's "Custom Made" for the lazy, lying, shiftless, opportunistic 'Rats -- & their lamestream media subsidiaries -- to demagog ad nauseum ad infinitum.

And if anyone thinks -- for one moment -- people will ask any one of the *reasoned* questions this author posits, while they & their neighbor's livlihoods are concurrently being eliminated & sent to 3rd world locations overseas?

...think again.

American workers are unwilling to adjust the price of their labor to third world levels and suffer the hit in standard of living that this would bring about. This, however, is what Bush and the corporations would like to see happen.

The key problem is that even if American workers were humble and long-suferring enough to accept this - they CANNOT do it because the costs of living are too high.

Similar reason why Russia CANNOT become a banana republic - it is too cold for bananas.

What we need is a leader who will point out that the destruction of our society, due to avarice and greed, is not the Christian way. It is not the compassionate way. Our current leader has more compassion for other countries than his own. We need a leader, like Reagan, that will point out that America comes first and global reconstruction second.

In other words, our workers are "freed up" from doing more menial things to do more skilled work.

"Freed up", I like it. Do not say "you are laid off" or "you are fired". Say "you freed up".

What part of "I don't like being extorted" do you not understand?

I'm only telling you what I would tell anyone else who tried to extort me or shake me down. Same message. If you don't like it, tough. But given the attitude you're showing, I'm beginning to think that only a fool would want to start a business here.

If it succeeds, the shakedown artists will come after him from all sides. Jesse Jackson will want his piece of the action. The unions will come in, and want their piece of the action. The lawyers will soon find new deep pockets. That's on top of the tax burden and the regulations.

Guess who ultimately ends up paying for those shakedowns? I ain't going to - those get passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices unless I do something to cut them - and if I do, then Lou Dobbs begins HIS shakeodwn routine.

And the thing is, the only defense I'll have as a business is to donate money to politicians through a PAC or something like that so that maybe I can keep that business from going under.

If attitudes like yours are common here, then maybe I am a sucker for wanting to go into business for myself.

In those long years of Republican exile from power from the 1940's onward, the control of the party went from "Main Street Republicans," to "Wall Street Republicans." And, IMHO, they struck a Devil's Bargain with the Demoncraps.

That is, in exchange for their votes on social programs, they authorized the demoncrap government to shift the tax burden away from corporate taxes to the middle classes, in particular, The "Upper Middle Class" that the demoncraps seem to despise with such a particular odium.

Bewteen 50 Thou and 200 Thou, the individual earner is screwed ... or has to spend more time on tax evasion than on business. And while we are on this lugubrious subject, the young people from the "working classes," are the most useless rock and roll, drugged MTV Clymers this country has ever seen.

It takes a far-sighted employer indeed to work with them, instead of hiring some illegal alien for a third of the money, who will show up three days in a row ...even if he has to walk.

Then of course, it occurs to even the densest employers, that it would be even cheaper to employ these hard-working Third Worlders where they live. Eventually the system will grind to a halt, because people making 5 dollars a day .. and less ...will never be able to afford the products they are making, no matter how low the cost in American Terms. Of course, out-of-work Americans won't either!

To top it off, the demoncraps will have the votes of the MTV Clymer, The Illegal Alien, The Women, and the African American absolutely locked. Thank God for the Electoral college. We might be able to put GW back, but if we lose Congress, we are in for another round of screwing. And the Republican Party, in its official wisdom, demonstrates time and again that it doesn't care whether they are officially in power or not.

This realization, fostered by Ross Perot, is what cost George Bush père the presidency and it could happen again.

as a Howard Dean donor, you must be sad he's finally done

Name calling, Ad Hominum attacks, that is the best you folks can do.

We carried 'Sore Loserman' hand made signs at the State Capitol in November-December 2000...every Saturday, week after week!!

But, I'm just one vote, so I'm sure Shrub can win without me, and you must be really confident that I don't count...well, I don't.

So, when you see the Vote totals, you can be confident that I avoided the Presidential Line...and voted sraight Republican 'Down Ticket'.

P.S. Dubya is gonna get CREAMED!!!
