Ed Koch: Al Gore 'Disgusts' Me (Go Koch Go!)

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch said Tuesday that a speech last week by former vice president Al Gore accusing President Bush of "betraying" America left him "disgusted."

"I happened to have seen [the speech] on television," Koch told radio host Sean Hannity, during a broadcast from Palisades, New Jersey where Hannity was promoting his just-released book, "Deliver Us From Evil."

"I was disgusted with Al Gore," Koch told Hannity.

"I supported Al Gore in the last election," he explained, before adding that now, "I would never vote for him for anything, including dog catcher."

Gotham's one-time top Democrat announced last year that he intended to support President Bush, primarily because he approves of the way Bush has handled the war on terrorism.

His support for Bush prompted Hannity to ask if Koch would consider addressing the GOP's New York City convention this September.

Koch said he'd be happy to address the convention, but only if he was allowed to point out his differences with Bush on domestic issues.

The ex-mayor's comments about Gore were greeted with wild applause by Hannity's live audience.

Always like Koch when he was mayor of NYC. Never forget seeing him on an escalator while shopping with my mother and she said "Hello Mayor Koch" and he said his famous phrase "How Am I doing?". No big deal but he was always friendly.

Dont think I would trust Koch at the Republican convention. His support is welcomed but I dont think he is that influential...Maybe Im wrong. We will be in NY afterall.

He was sugarcoating it: Al Gore is insane. The loss of the election just pushed him over the edge. Even the 'rats know it: look at the way the Gore endorsement hastened the demise of Dean!!

I used to enjoy Ed's radio show on WABC out of New York.
I remember him saying, "If you agree with me on 7 out of 10 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 10 out of 10 issues, see a psychiatrist." Classic.

Koch said he disagreed with Bush on just about EVERYTHING, except the War on Terrorism, and Iraq. In his mind, that war trumps EVERYTHING else, and therefore he supports GWB.

I always like Koch. I wasn't old enough to vote when he was mayor but if I was I probably would have voted for him for Mayor. My mother who was conservative thought he was a good mayor.

He was a good mayor. A kind-hearted decent man. Sure, he spent too much taxpayer money, but at least he did it because he really believed it would help people, never from a corrupt intention of buying their votes.

I suspect (as have others) that he may be homosexually inclined, but if so he has never talked about it publicly and never made a political issue out of it or tried to trash the traditional values of our American society because he wanted to change them to favor his views.

I don't know how observant a Jew he is, but he strikes me as a man who has learned his basic values from biblical teachings and decent Jewish parents, unlike so many liberals today.

Saying Al Gore disgusts him is all well and good, but I have news for Mr. Mayor, Al Gore isn't running for President. Al Gore is irrelevant, whether he makes idiotic speeches or not. Someone should ask him what he thinks of the two phony Democrats who are running for President, and perhaps he can tell us what he thinks of the unelectable front runner outpacing the politically viable John Edwards. Ed Koch should tell us what he thinks about his party so screwed up, they're backing the worst of the two between Kerry and Edwards.

As you may remember, Mayor Koch was defeated by Dave Dinkins in the Democratic primary for his fourth term (a tough defeat).

The next morning he stood outside the entrance to the 77th and Lex subway station that had always been one of his key campaign locations. He shook hands with everyone getting on the subway and thanked them. I told him "thanks for 12 great years" and he responded "Aren't you kind."

I used to think Koch couldn't be trusted, but he's gone through some sort of change and he is blasting that no good, liberal, moron, Al Gore. I say let's welcome Koch to the Republican convention.
