Most Americans believe Bible stories of Moses, Noah are true

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A majority of Americans believe many well-known Bible stories, including Moses parting the Red Sea and God creating the world in six days, are true, according to the findings of an ABC News poll released Sunday.

Although most Americans believed the story of Noah and the flood word-for-word, a large majority rejected the suggestion that Jews bear the collective responsibility for the death of Jesus, the poll found.

The poll's findings were released a day before the network airs its interview with movie-star Mel Gibson, whose film, "The Passion of Christ," depicts the last 12 hours of Jesus' life on earth.

The film has been criticised by some Jewish leaders for its depictions of Jews and some scenes portraying Jews in the film have been edited out ahead of its public release.

Gibson, who belongs to an ultra-conservative Catholic group, poured 25 million dollars of his own money into making the film, which he directed.

"While religious belief is a strong factor in a literal reading of the Bible, it plays far less of a role in views of collective responsibility for Christ's death," the poll found.

Overall, sixty-four percent of those canvassed believed the story of Moses parting the Red Sea was "literally true, meaning it happened that way word-for-word."

Sixty-one percent felt the same way about creation while 60 percent believed in the story of Noah and the flood.

Most, excluding those like me who have tried to build a boat.

Well, I believe that Noah built the Ark. But I'm also pretty sure he sold it after he had to scrape the barnacles off from that one time.

The 10 commandments are laws based on human nature. When the commandments are disobeyed, the evil side of human nature takes over.

Take the worship of animals, environment, or land and sea for example. We end up with a group of fascists stealing land, and putting the life of fish over the lives of hundreds of people. If environmentalism was left unchecked, humans would be "thinned" for the sake of a forest rather than the other way around.

Adultery is obvious. It becomes a gender war, welfare, homosexuality, pedophilia, abortion, and every lust, fetish, or broken life imaginable.

For each broken commandment, there are consequences.

There are 10 simple rules , if followed, that would create peace among men. The evil side of mans nature finds them too much of a burden, and rejects them. Then man blames God, government, and each other for war, hate, division. They can't see their own failings. Especially since the 10 commandments are outlawed in public places. People might read them and learn something.

The Jews demanded the release of Barrabbas and chose Jesus to die in his place, to die for the sins of Barrabbas...Ironic, eh???

The Romans and Priests of the day saw Jesus as a threat to their power. They used propaganda to deceive and sway the people into a frenzy. When the people were finally in a state of riot, they chose. Then the Roman soldiers did their job. Afterwords, everyone hung their heads in shame except those in power. The church was born.

"What exactly do Americans believe in when it comes to the paranormal, the occult, and "out-of-this-world" experiences? The Gallup Poll recently updated its audit of Americans' beliefs in a variety of these types of phenomena. The results suggest a significant increase in belief in a number of these experiences over the past decade, including in particular such Halloween-related issues as haunted houses, ghosts and witches. Only one of the experiences tested has seen a drop in belief since 1990: devil possession. Overall, half or more of Americans believe in two of the issues: psychic or spiritual healing, and extrasensory perception (ESP), and a third or more believe in such things as haunted houses, possession by the devil, ghosts, telepathy, extraterrestrial beings having visited earth, and clairvoyance."

America is a nation to be mourned. Our country is filled with people who, because of their lack of knowledge, speak a language that they no longer understand. The bible is for many a collection of nice thoughts and our flag a national designer's tag. Both mere accessories.

While we (America) defend the colors of our tent, our tent stakes are being pulled from the ground and taken away. Even if we should escape and seek a new foothold, without first regaining the stakes and the understanding of their placement our tent will not be raised.
