SENATE ETHICS COMM- FREEREPUBLIC NET: "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MEMO BEHIND THE CURTAIN"
FRN | 2/20/04 | diotima

Posted on 02/20/2004 5:52:13 AM PST by diotima

On November 5, 2003, Americans were given an unprecedented look inside the Democrats' war, when Fox News published an astoundingly revealing memorandum from within the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, describing how Democrats on the Committee intend to use their positions, influence, and access to information - not to help win the war on terror, or to protect American citizens - but to undermine the Bush Administration. The memo describes their agreement to launch an "independent investigation" as a means to that end, timed to coincide with the 2004 presidential campaign.

Read the memo on intelmemo.com

On January 15, 2004 The Free Republic Network filed a complaint with the Senate Select Ethics Committee alleging improper and unethical conduct by Senator Jay Rockefeller and Democrat members of the staff of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Read the FR thread here.

Earlier last week, we received a response from the SSEC: (click for larger image)

Yes, and this came out pre-9/11 Commission.
What kills me is Bush went ahead and put a Commission together. It's almost like he is unaware they are trying to ensnare the GOP.

I think there is something to this.

Pursuing "normal channels" is not going to work against a power establishment.

IMHO, this whole situation doesn't pass the smell test. Republicans either want to "save" this issue to use against Rats, OR Republicans have something to hide.

My antennae is up and I don't like what I'm beginning to think.

Can you spell "Whitewash"?

Yes: "O-U-T-R-A-G-E"

Well? How'd I do?

A "highly placed Washington mover and shaker" told me that there is an understood bipartisan agreement in place that there will be no investigations of ethics complaints

Gee, just like the impeachment conviction. What a coincidence, eh? What a surprise! Why, I'd even bet they've got a piece of "Scottish Law" at the ready, all set to support their inaction, should the need arise.

Something tells me that things are going to continue devolving, until each and every person named in the infamous "900 FBI Files" is out to pasture. And even then, unless they're replaced by genuine statesmen, nothing will ever change, except for the worst.

I'm gradually resigning myself to Orwell's prediction: "If you want a vision of the future; imagine a bootheel, stamping on a human face forever."

Please try to be more responsible and less emotional. Posts like that can easily gain you a knock at the door and an unpleasant trip downtown -- or worse. You'd hardly be the first to discover that firsthand.

Even short of that, just try to imagine the hay the left could make of it as a quotation of "those violent antiamerican rightwing radicals".

What? It would be out of context? So? So what! Even pre-911 even milder statements have turned the speakers' lives upside down and inside out.

Google this.

IS the GOP is in the Majority, or NOT?. Why can't the GOP stand-up to these 'RATS. To HELL with the "go-along, to-get-along" Trent Lott mindset. :(

Two things stand in the way of that ever happening.

The first is the cloyingly "polite" countryclub mentality that drives the GOP to bring The Marquis of Queensbury Rules to a streetfight, and then insist that their side "fight fair" even as the other side is vivisecting them with tire-irons.

The second is known as "900 FBI Files".

The contents of the memo are damning, to be sure.

But the reason for the whitewashing lies in the simple fact that any member of Congress who pushes too hard on this is likely to have their own secret papers leaked in a similar fashion.

Mention term limits around here and one has to duck for cover. Fred Thompson was my hero, a citizen legislator, one term and leave. Yes, I dislike lifetime professional politicians, regardless of party.

Catch-22: because of the abysmal dearth of decent statesmen in the legislature, any time a good one does get elected, common sense dictates that he should remain in office, lest he get replaced by "more of the same". But, if he does remain in office, he's perfectly positioned to become "more of the same" himself!

Soooooooo nice to see you turning over a new leaf and being so very caring and concerned about someone being too emotional.

Thanks enormously. I shall have to take your exhortation to prayer and possibly to heart.

'Tis all the more of a consideration given your famous track record and superior wisdom and all.

BTW, Admin Moderator, if you feel my post/comment was sufficiently unwise, please delete it.

Blessings to each and all who love truth and love.

Marquis of Queensbury Rules to a streetfight...with tire-irons.

Agree...War is Hell! War has been declared by the 'RATs, "No quarter is given, none is received."

HA! I just got an email from NRSC so I decided to send them "my comment." (Below)

I am a member of FreeRepublic.com and tonight I read that some representatives of FR sent a complaint letter to the Senate Ethics Committee demanding action against Jay Rockefeller, et al, and the Democrats for their infamous "memogate."

Today we received our answer. That answer is NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AND THAT OUR "COMPLAINT LACKS SUBSTANTIVE MERIT AND NO FURTHER ACTION IS APPROPRIATE WITH RESPECT TO THE MATTER, WHICH IS HEREBY DISMISSED."

So once again, we faithful lemmings are being led around by the entrenched incumbents of the Republican Party. You must not need our money. After all, you already have all the power you can share with entrenched Democrats!

IT'S ALL A GOOD OL' BOY'S CLUB!
