The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has visited imprisoned former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein for the first time.
Spokesman Nada Dumani said two ICRC officials, including a doctor, visited him on Saturday and hope to conduct further visits.
They carried out a physical and mental evaluation of the former president, who is in US custody in Iraq.
They also took a letter from Saddam Hussein for his family.

Where are the obligatory "The US is treating the Former President of Iraq in a shameful and illegal manner. We demand that President Hussein be restored to his former position, post haste!"

The International Red Cross have visited former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein in custody.
Two members of the humanitarian group, including a doctor, conducted a physical and mental examination of the deposed Iraqi leader.
Red Cross spokesman Muin Kassis told Sky News the two officials had been granted a private visit, but said details of Saddam Hussein's condition would remain confidential under the terms of the Geneva Convention.
However Mr Kassis did reveal that Saddam had given the workers a message to pass onto his family.
"The fact that the visit took place is a positive thing and we hope that there will be more visits in the future," he said.

I heard an interview on CNN with a member of the team that visited Saddam. She didn't call him the FORMER president of Iraq. She called him the president of Iraq (no "former" in the description).

I'm surprised the Red Cross showed up when the Red Crescent could have done a slightly better job.

I wonder if it was the same twit who reported the last election, where Saddam got 100% of the vote, as legitimate.

I wonder where this skank's deep concern was when he was torturing, murdering and raping his people.

Oh, they only show up when they want your blood, money or publicity.

Red Cross spokesman Muin Kassis told Sky News the two officials had been granted a private visit, but said details of Saddam Hussein's condition would remain confidential under the terms of the Geneva Convention. Only because they couldn't find anything to complain about.
If they had, you know it would make headlines.

Ya beat me to it...I was gonna post the EXACT SAME question. Like most "humanitarian" international organizations they are slightly to the left of Leon Trotsky and they never met a dictator that they didn't love. Miserable phonies.

They also took a letter from Saddam Hussein for his familyGreat, now they know where he is. Do you think the attacks on local jails, in the past week or two were random? Even of the letter doesn't divulge his location I have faith that the IRC will.
