Beijing - Beer bottles that exploded in the hot summer weather were one of the biggest health risks Chinese consumers faced last year, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
Complaints about food safety rose by nearly 25 percent in 2003 as newly wealthy Chinese consumers looked for quality and spoke out if they were disappointed, Xinhua quoted a leading consumer group as saying.
"Personal injury, foreign matter in food, outdated or undated food and children's food safety were the chief (causes of) complaint," said Wang Qianhu, director of the China Consumers' Association's complaint and law department.
"...Beer bottle explosions were responsible for most of last summer's consumer injuries," he added.
Consumer associations across the country received 1 621 complaints about food safety in 2003, up 24,1 percent from 2002, the association said.

I'm not comfortable leaving full ones in my house for any length of time.
Certainly not overnight.

I remember when Grandmom and the Aunts put up a bunch of corn down at the county cannery.
She kept it stored in the dining room and every once in a while, Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuu!!! one would let go.
Sprayed canned corn all over!

Personal Beer Story:
I used to brew my own, when I was on Active Duty. I had a starter brewer's kit, that could do about 5-6 glns. at a batch - enough for about 4 cases of whatever I wanted.
I was doign this, while stationed in the high desert: Arizona, New Mexico, where the air pressure is less.
When I moved to Florida, I never took into account the pressure change to sea level - once bottled, the stuff reacted, and one night, I awoke to the sound of bottle after bottle exploding in the closet! Oh, the Humanity!

Our relatives came to visit us in San Marino, California. They drove there from Iowa, on to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc. They had canned drinks, sodas, in their trunk as they drove across desert areas in the summer, in their hot trunk. They all exploded! It was a HUGE mess, but we all learned from it!
I agree with Billorites about not letting a beer sit there overnight... just too risky!
