ü      AH-64 Apache Helicopter."Recently, Apaches in Afghanistan achieved success directly supporting ground troops. ... Great job. We'll be using it as reference.

It is definitely good to have it as it's own threat -- I hope the Admin Mod will forgive me and leave it in Breaking News, so it will stay up. We do need to be focusing on Kerry for the past 30 years, not Kerry's 4 months in Vietnam.

Would we want a president during a time of war and crisis who has been CONSISTENTLY against doing anything to defend our country?

(S. 1826, Introduced 2/3/94)

1997: Kerry Questioned Growth Of Intelligence Community After Cold War. “Now

Just to add this brief, but effective article to this reference thread:

Kerry's Inner Dove
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1083514/posts

EXCERPT:

"But George McGovern also could boast that he was "a decorated combat pilot in World War II," while his opponent "was stationed far from battle," and McGovern nonetheless lost 49 states, largely because the voters thought him weak on national security. Kerry may not project a similar image of weakness, but the record he has compiled in the three decades since he left Vietnam is more dovish than that of any Democratic nominee since McGovern.

The litany of weapons systems that Kerry opposed included conventional as well as nuclear equipment: the B-1 bomber, the B-2, the F-15, the F-14A, the F-14D, the AH-64 Apache helicopter, the AV-8B Harrier jet, the Patriot missile, the Aegis air-defense cruiser and the Trident missile. And he sought to reduce procurement of the M1 Abrams tank, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, the Tomahawk cruise missile and the F-16 jet. Time and again, Kerry fought against what he called "the military-industrial corporate welfare complex that has relentlessly chewed up taxpayers' dollars."

Kerry was one of the Senate's strongest critics of President Ronald Reagan's policies of military resistance to Communist inroads in this hemisphere.

"When he won election to the Senate in 1984, Kerry said that the "issue of war and peace" remained his "passion." As a first major foreign policy cause, he championed the "nuclear freeze." Later Kerry battled Sen. Sam Nunn, a hawkish Democrat who chaired the Armed Services Committee, over the funding of research into missile defense, which Kerry wanted to slash."

That's why every time anyone asks him about his record he says "I served in Vietnam". But it won't work forever.

Latest, this just in:

Even TODAY, Kerry wants to cut spending for missile defense!

"Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, emerging as the likely Democratic nominee, favors curtailing funding. Bush pressed his case for the system and restated the rationale for a missile shield in a major policy address this month, warning of emerging black markets that peddle nuclear materials. "

Don't you know it's UNPATRIOTIC to mention hanoi john's voting record? All you are suppose to mention is his Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Wonder how many Vietnam vets have more than 1 Silver Star or WWII Vets?

My Dad got one, under sniper fire he and Clyde Bates raised Old Glory on Corregidor when the Rock Force retook it. He also had 3 small sharpnel scars on his face for which he didn't get a Purple Heart.

John "Flip Flop" Kerry On Missile Defense
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1082842/posts

John Kerry on Missile Defense

Voted YES on deploying National Missile Defense ASAP.

Vote that the policy of the US is to deploy a National Missile Defense system capable of defending against limited ballistic missile attack as soon as it is technologically possible, and to seek continued negotiated reductions in Russian nuclear forces.
Bill S 257 ; vote number 1999-51 on Mar 17, 1999

Voted NO on deploying missile defense as soon as possible.

Vote to limit further debate and proceed to a bill that would require the U.S. to deploy as soon as possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending against a limited ballistic missile attack.
Bill S 1873 ; vote number 1998-262 on Sep 9, 1998

Voted NO on considering deploying NMD, and amending ABM Treaty.

Vote to consider establishing a policy requiring the deployment of a national missile defense system by the end of 2003. The bill would also urge discussions with Russia to amend the ABM Treaty to allow deployment of the system.
Bill S 1635 ; vote number 1996-157 on Jun 4, 1996

* * *

But CURRENTLY John Kerry is now officially OPPOSED to a National Missile Defense of any kind:

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/special/president/issues/index.defense.html

Opposes NMD, supports nonproliferation and arms control

Kerry says the "past" doesn't matter but only when it make him look good for a vote.

This makes him look really good:

Missing from the lists of measures to improve our military is Kerry's "NO" vote for enhanced body armor for our troops now fighting in Iraq.

Am I correct?

"Callers to Mike Malloy - and Malloy himself - are suggesting that Zell Miller may be suffering from alzheimers. Malloy is actually - sincerely - saying listeners should be charitable toward him, because he may be in an early stage of dementia, that would explain the hostility and paranoia, as they see it, especially on Matthews tonight."

Air America callers are saying Zell Miller has alzheimers - seriously

I hear sKerry's defence to all of this is that he voted for the annual defence bill 16 of 19 times.

What do freepers have to say to that?

My own thoughts are this record speaks for itself, all he is doing is trying to argument shift and no matter what he was the one who voted against sending armor protection in his most recent vote - the 87 Billion Dollar Bill. hawk

You are correct -

Sen. John Kerry voted against body armor for our troops and I believe even vehicle armor mods.

Then this year he said GW was denying our troops proper body armor and our men and women were dying because Bush was not giving them needed protection.

Out US military has been betrayed again and again by John Kerry!

Thanks for the ping, Trav. The worst on the list is missile defense, in my opinion. There were mathematical models to support the concept of MAD before the cold war ended, not that I agree with them. But after it was over, the zero-sum models fell apart completely. A rogue nation with just one missile and a diesel sub could kill millions of Americans.
