Let Comcast know by switching to satellite.

I have Comcast in PA, and I'm no fan of rising cable TV rates and their quasi-monopoly, but...

they'll have to pry my speedy cable modem from my cold, dead hands!

No way will I go back to 21.6Kbps dial-up Internet (the fastest I could get on our phone lines and no hope of DSL).

I know I could get satellite and keep the cable modem, but then they charge a premium for Internet access with no cable subscription, so it would just end up costing me more.

Every cable company has a sub-basic package with only the local channels and a couple of shopping channels. They don't advertise it, but it's there. I pay $15 a month for that service and I get DirecTV for the rest. It works great.

Give the new guy a break. He might not be Moby, whose music does suck, you know.

Fox news has lost its charm. Maybe its me, but its hard to say what differentiates itself from any other newscast.

Okay, the chicks overall are leggier, but the screen is messy and distracting, the sound effects are distracting, the
liberal guests never stay on topic, O'Reilly complains about school kids having their own prom party, but lets the
ball drop on the California Bar not disciplining its members, and its fixation on never ending taloid stories - "tonight, we waste
your time with the pre pre pre too early discussion of the trial that's a year away...). One show and slot should be
enough, but even H&C has to cover that stuff too.

They dump Tony Snow for Chris Wallace. I heard Wallace Friday doing a weekly promo thing on a radio show.
He was still arrogantly trying to defend not doing the Kerry-Polier story. Reminded me of the stories about Dan
Blather not mentioning Chandra Levy and the Congress Critter. It is quite telling when the non-coverage of a
story creates more of a story than what should have been covered, even it only touched upon.

Other than the legs, why pay more for FNC?

Heck, I've started to put on Scarborough as background.

I could get local channels with DirecTv here. But once you add their charge to the additional cable internet and additional charge for not having cable tv, it all adds up to the same. No reason to have that many bills.

And I hope you don't think it is me calling the new guy a troll. Just didn't know that anyone else didn't pay extra to get Fox since I always have.

If the poster is talking about the "Expanded Basic" service (which IS what includes FoxNews as well as CNN and MSNBC, which by the way all 3 are in the same "group" of channel, namely the 70's, thus I would wonder if they're going to get rid of all news organizations in that group, or just FoxNews), I've just checked with Comcast on the Internet, and according to the channel list there, there is no notification that the channels for the "Expanded Basic" package are going to change anytime soon.

Bottom line, I would respectfully submit, Stonenots, that your information is wrong, imo. Either you are mistaken, or a troll.

Thanks for your clarification.

Before anyone goes out and spends any time and energy complaining to Comcast, I would suggest you do some research and try to find out why Comcast is doing this. Fox News may very well be the real culprit here -- if they've raised the "subscription" price that Comcast must pay them.

There was an enormous hue and cry here in the New York area around this time last year, because Cablevision refused to include the Yankees' cable station in their basic package. The radio airwaves were flooded with ads calling on people to contact their elected officials to "force" Cablevision to carry the Yankees games. But after doing some research on the subject, I decided that I was on Cablevision's side on that one.

If that is the case, then this guy is out to rope-a-dope us into boycotting a more conservative business. These Moby trolls are trying to get sneaky. Thank goodness there are plenty of level headed types here to thwart their feeble attempts. It really is pitiful to see the DUh's trying to be clever.

Ummm, from what I read, he is informing folks of what Comcast is doing and how to express your opinion of what they are doing. Don't see anywhere that this is an attack on Fox News Channel. As a matter of fact, it seems as though it is a lamentation over the dropping of FNC.

I hate to sound like you-know-who, but I feel your pain. I lived for 4 years on dial-up to avoid the Comcast high price + surcharge. Never thought DSL would be available at my house either, but it became available this month. Been hooked up for a week and could never go back.

All I can say is keep checking on the DSL and if it ever becomes available, drop Comcast ASAP. Verizon DSL in MD can be had for $30-35/month. There is a website (I think it is www.dslreports.com) that is helpful to find out how far you are from the nearest station.

I used to like DISH until we went to upgrade our system to get local channels. We bought and paid for two new receivers and were told we'd get them in a few days and then would be able to put the order in on the new superdish that's required as well.

They said the superdish would be able to be installed within two weeks of getting the receivers hooked up. Well, we got the receivers after ten days (four more than actually quoted). We got them installed and one didn't work from the get-go. Had to send it back. At the same time, they're now saying no installs until Feb or March. We argued that they promised two weeks when we bought the receivers.

They pushed up to Jan 18th. Then the local installer says they can't do it then and push back to Feb 19th. Last week we got a call and they said nothing until April 28th. This really pissed me off. I'm contacting the AGs office on this crap. They presold a system they didn't have and couldn't have until April. We ordered it in December. I'm going back to DirecTV.

I want someone to explain WHY Cable and Satellite providers are allowed to get away with BUNDLING their package offerings in the first place.

Didn't the Feds attack Microsoft and someone else(??) for bundling?

I understand Atty Gen. Ashcroft could bust up this intrusive scam by enforcing the Robinson-Patman, Clayton and Sherman anti-trust acts, which would allow us to avoid supporting/paying a portion of our monthly cable bill to Howard Stern, MTV1 and MTV2, Jerry Springer and the rest of the of the slimey purveyors of VIDEO SEWAGE.

I'm aware of at least one petition being circulated currently to do just this.
