Gay marriage ban turns heat on Cheney's lesbian daughter (gay activists taunt Mary Cheney)

George Bush's plan to ban same-sex marriages has pushed his vice-president's openly lesbian daughter, Mary Cheney, into an unwanted spotlight.

Ms Cheney is being urged by gay activists to speak out against a constitutional amendment to outlaw such unions which the President yesterday backed as a way of protecting marriage.

They have set up a website, DearMary.com, calling on their supporters to write to her about the issue. It displays Ms Cheney's photograph on the back of a milk carton, mimicking a missing person advertisement, asking: "Have you seen me?"

The site points out that Ms Cheney has remained silent on the issue, and addresses her: "Dear Mary, Vice-President Cheney, your father, recently said he would support adding anti-gay prejudice to the US constitution, making you and millions of other Americans second-class citizens.

"As an open lesbian who has worked for years as a public advocate for gay civil rights, you are in a unique position to defend yourself and your community in this dire hour. Won't you join us in publicly opposing this bigoted un-American proposal?"

The activists justify their action by saying Ms Cheney is a public figure working on her father's re-election campaign. Nearly 8000 people have sent Ms Cheney a letter through the site.

While most Americans polled are against gay marriage, less than half support changing the constitution to ban it.

Just because Mary is a lesbian doesn't mean she supports Same Sex Marriage and has nothing to do with her father's stand on anything. Tolerance and Endorsement are not the same thing.

Mary Cheney has a right to her life and she will live it as she (and not anyone else) sees fit.

Just because Mary Cheney is does not mean she has to do what other gay communities tell her to do. She has a free mind and soul to do with as she pleases.

Mary Cheney (unlike those attacking her) is her own person and is living her life the way she chooses and she will continue to do so no matter what.

The one thing that the left cannot understand is the decision Ms. Cheney made early on in this battle. Her parents are educated responsible people that are making a difference. The political life and the success they share is not something Ms. Cheney may care to disrupt or torpedo. There are relatives of famous people that do not create misery and chaos because they respect and love them. Why would any clear thinking child of the Vice President of the United States walk off and become a homosexual activist while saddling up to whackos haters of her parents?

Tammy Bruce has stated her support of Mary, and her lack of support for gay marriage. Newt's sister has come out for gay marriage.

They are not being denied the right to marry. They can marry anyone of the opposite sex. Legally, they can get thr right to hospital visits, and can will their material items to whomever they wish. This is about money - Soc Sec, etc.

It is a disease!! Those who would destroy us have forced to not be judgmental. We have become accepting. But, homesexuality is not normal. It is a disease that comes through the genes or a behavioral defect that occurs very early on.

Guilty parents who blame themselves for the kid's defect are some of homosexuality's greatest supports. But, the parents are wrong. There is no other terrible disease where the parents would stand by and do nothing but be "tollerant."
