That'd be a weird conclusion, wouldn't it? I've got four tickets and am going with friends Saturday to see "The Passion of the Christ." Exit reviews have been terrific, not a dry eye or a person unaffected by the story in the exiting crowd. This could be very good medicine for the lovers of self in our society.

Funny how similar the reactions that Jesus receives in our day and time are with the days he walked this earth. He was accepted and loved by some, rejected and hated by many others.

Yet for everyone of us, he went to the Cross.

Mel had the guts and beliefs to put up $25 million of his own money for PASSION. His Hollywood critics have never taken such a risk ... at least not with their own money. Normal process in movie production is for multiple parties to fiance it with EVERYONE hedging the bets. Covering their bets including actors who must negotiate to take straight payment or points. How many points.

I don't think Hollywood, and the powers that be there, will reward Mel Gibson for making a movie and engaging in PR campaign that roiled the waters re: Jews and their role, as he sees it, in the Passion.

I don't WANT Hollywood to "reward" Mel Gibson. I don't WANT Hollywood to come in after the fact, and attempt to insert its sorry ways into Mel's labor on "The Passion."

There is genuine Jewish criticism of Passion. Then there is left wing criticism of Passion by atheistic Jews who want to see all religions minimized and disrespected.

As there are Christians who find the film too focused on the violence, or anti-semitic, or not faithful to the Gospels, etc.

Yes. The movie throbs with such immediate and intense power, that it will likely take several viewings to decently evaluate. At now, I'd not write Mel out of the Oscar picture.
