[history]
Since October 1998, 33 cities and the state of New York have brought lawsuits against gun makers and retailers seeking to hold the companies responsible for the misuse of their products. More than 35 major private suits have also been filed since 1998. Funded with millions of dollars from George Soros (search), the Brady Campaign (search) (and its predecessor Handgun Control) has paid for much of the legal costs behind these suits.

This is a bit old. Apparently, it has just been encumbered by an amendment by Boxer about selling weapons with locks. They just went into a time-out after discussing an amendment to ban ammo that the Attorney General determines is capable of being armor piercing. They're going after .50 cal. They may as well stop wasting their time. I believe it's over for now.

Proponents for keeping the semi-automatic "assault" gun ban (search) argue that 10 of the 50 police officers shot to death annually over the four years from 1998 to 2001 were killed by these guns.Wouldn't they have just used different guns otherwise?
The sheer stupidity of gun control proponents is breathtaking.

Ignorance is the main problem.
Many folks in the "blue" states have never even SEEN a gun, except on TV.
Then you've got ABC talking about a ban on semi-automatics while showing someone firing a full auto UZI in the background.
While many ARE stupid, most are just incredibly ignorant.

We can play this amendment game too. Next time the dems put out a noxious bill like the AWB renewal, or better yet some touchy-feely "must-pass" legislation, we should attach just about every dream plan for conservatives, along with guarantees of confirming our judges, to the beeyotch. Let em eat cake.

While many ARE stupid, most are just incredibly ignorant. In retrospect, "stupid" was a bit harsh to lay collectively on those people, but on the other hand, I don't know that ignorance alone could explain this. The logic in their argument for assault weapons bans fails to measure up to even the most basic standards.

Colt still makes hand guns, they only reduced the number of models.
Some of the models they dropped are coming back.
If the bill to end speculative lawsuits passes Colt will probably bring back production of more revolvers and small automatics.

It looks like the best outcome will be for *nothing* to become law.
It seems every time a new "gun" bill is passed at the federal level, the gunowners get screwed every time.
And why should this time be any different?
We've already seen the bill go from a stand-alone piece of legislation, to 4 admendments to 10 amendments. I think it might have increased again to 14.
And after Craig's comments on AP ammo, I don't think any of the bastards can be trusted anymore.
