I am in a debate on another forum-- can anyone give me the total number of abortions in the U.S. since the legalization of abortion in 1973? Or, the total number over another long time period? Thanks.

I'd suggest you go to the Focus on the Family website (James Dobson). It's possible they would cite the statistics you need.

I know you want a irrefutable fact that can be confirmed through research. I can't provide that. But my recollection is that US abortions since Roe v Wade are around 40 million.

Some 44 million would mean, conservatively, that there are that many FEWER Americans alive today. It may in fact be a greater number than that, as the older ones among this group would have already reproduced. Of this number, probably some 25 million or so would be of voting age or older. What differences would this make of the present-day politics? Probably an even more overwhelming vote against "abortion on demand". There would be a vast difference in the composition of our work force, with this number of new workers paying into taxes and Social Security, while keeping illegal immigrants at bay (because of the fewer number of unfilled jobs).

We shall never know.

Check out page 14 of the following:

for best available data through 1997. The providers of this data have became less forthcoming since then, finally realizing the implications of their data collection efforts.

For good discussion of the uncertainty of body counts in 20th century mass murder incidents, see Guy Elliot's "TWENTIETH CENTURY BOOK OF THE DEAD"

"We shall never know."

People fortunate enough to live in the wealthiest country in the history of the world have chosen to kill off 44 million babies. It's a horror.

You will find many of your opponents have closed their minds to the facts.
They will believe what they believe regardless of the facts you present.
They will question the data and they will deny what their own eyes see.
