U.S. prods EU on arms sales to China (France Alert)

WASHINGTON, March 1 (UPI) -- The United States Monday urged the European Union not to lift an arms embargo again China, citing Beijing's human rights record.

"I expressed concern that the European Union might lift its arms embargo," Secretary of State Colin Powell said at a joint news conference with top EU officials following their meeting. "We and the European Union imposed prohibitions for the same reasons, most especially China's serious human rights abuses, and we believe that those reasons remain valid today."

France wants to lift the sanctions, which were imposed following Beijing's 1989 crackdown of students in Tiananmen Square.

Last week, the U.S. State Department released its annual human rights reports, criticizing Beijing for its arrests last year of pro-democracy activists.

Now that the french no longer have the Iraqis to sell weapons to, they are willing to take the next best thing. The communist Chinese.

Actually, most of french people disagree with this un moral deal with chinese communists. as a significative fact, When chinese President came in National Parliament, lesse than half of parliamentaris chose to stay. That occured three weeks ago.

Now the main question is to determinate if french people are loyal usa friends . It is a different matter,but it is important to notice that French President Jacques Chirac, was the first european leader supporting usa and visiting ground zero, just after the 11 september. In the same period, one of the best columnists in France, the Monde's chief redactor wrote " Today we feel, we are all americans" .

Today, actually,despite the temporary crisis between our twice nations, most of the french people keeep loving usa , ( no bull shit..!) but i must confess they are not exactlty found of GWB, because they are very atonished such a man can lead the greatest democracy.
