[history]
It grieves me to object to Mel Gibson's movie because I know millions of Christians in this country and around the world will be moved and possibly even transformed by it

I usually like Mona's input. In this case, she is dead wrong.

She is off her rocker on this one.... way off. I have lost all respect for this columnist and will now NEVER read her whiney words again.
She is dead to me... just like France.

Common now all you Mel apologists. Trash Mona Charen like you've trashed everyone else with anything negative to say about this movie.

Yawn. These kooks aren't convincing anyone beyond their fellow kooks of these idiotic claims.

I am neither a Christian nor a big fan of organized religion. However, Mona is just plain wrong here.
There are many nutcases in the world. They will find irrational reasons to support their passions and prejudices. Blaming Mel Gibson's movie for having the potential to incite the mentally unstable makes no sense. By this standard, the inmates will always run the asylum.

Is she "dead" to you too?
After reading her less than thoughtful words about Christians who view this movie as wonderful.... Christians who by the way, support Israel completely... she is no longer worth reading. She is history to me.

Waco, I grew up in Waco. I even had an office in the ALICO building.

Mona, the people whose anti-Semitic feelings get stirred up by this film are anti-Semites to begin with and are
looking for yet another excuse to hate Jews even more than they already do. If this film was never made, they'd find their excuses someplace else.
And as far as the recent wave of violence against Jews in Europe is concerned, most (if not all) of it has been committed by Muslims. ......and they won't get bent out of shape by this movie for obvious reasons.
To: mercy
I'm not going to trash Mona Charen. She wasn't nasty or phony in expressing her concerns, like so many others before her have been. She isn't blasting the movie or telling Christians the world would be a better place if they just toned down their religion. So I'm just fine with her opinion, even if I hope she is wrong.
In fact I'm kind of in the mood to grieve right along with her tonight about the state of the world.

IT was a largely CHRISTIAN Military that ended godless nazism and freed Europe... the world needs more Christians alright... too bad moaning mona DOESN'T GET IT!
The nerve of that woman to equate CHRISTIANS who support Israel and like the movie, THE PASSION OF CHRIST with muslim terrorists who would willingly commit acts of violence against CHRISTIANS and JEWS!!
She needs to take a look at all those white crosses at the American cemeteries in France! Maybe she should just join up Kerry... he is just her speed!

I am one of The Passion's biggest supporters (see my posts), but this information is rather distressing. We know Arabs aren't vandalizing anything relating to the death of Christ, nor are the Greeks or I presume the French, or the Germans.
I understand the heaviness of this question, but does anyone care to theorize on the reasons anit-Semitism seems to return again and again in all parts of the globe? I have yet to fully understand the issue.
If I had to guess, I would venture that some may presume that those of the Jewish faith don't assimilate quite as fully into the culture they reside in, and are seen as placing their faith over their patriotism and love of country?? I cannot come up with any other reasoning, so someone knowledgeable in this area please help me out?
Another question I have is this....look at the amazing amount of animosity toward all Americans in the world right now (I would say a much larger issue than anti-Semitism) or anti-Kurdish emotions in Turkey or anti-Japanese feelings in China, or a million other prejudices. Do we shine the light on anti-Semitism that is out of proportion to the whole? All thoughts appreciated here.

Mel Gibson might have thought more about that before making his film in the way he did.In other words, Gibson should have lied about the role of Jewish leaders in Christ's death, or left it out of the story, or what?
What on earth do people want?
To: Young Rhino
I will avoid her writings like the plague. I feel as if she insulted me to the core because I found the movie to be JUST EXCELLENT and a real expression of Mel Gibson's faith and belief in God.
A refreshing thing coming from a movie "star"... in these troubled times.

I usually find Charen to be very thoughtful and reasonable, but I almost can't believe she even wrote this column. Her whole premise is flawed. Only the first and last paragraphs of a long article even mention Mel Gibson's film, yet the theme of the entire article is how the film is anti-Semitic. She claims Gibson seeded the movie with "Jewish guilt and perfidy", but rather than give examples to prove her point, she launches into a list of all of the anti-Semitic incidents around the world (completely neglecting to mention the influence of Islam in those incidents) and somehow concludes that it's Gibson's fault. By her logic, Christian beliefs cannot be expressed because some nutcases on the other side of the world are vandalizing synagogues (she also fails to mention that ALL of these incidents occurred without the movie having even been released).
I hope she recovers very soon from whatever affliction it is that is robbing her of her ability to think clearly.

"In Tuzla, 1,500 demonstrators carried placards reading, 'Sharon and Hitler: Two Eyes in the Same Head,' and, 'Israel — The Real Face of Terrorism."
Interesting comments from Bosnian muslims considering they supported hitler and nazis in WWII.
To: fr_freak
I wonder if she thinks that the muslims got a special preview of the movie and then went on those crazed anti-Israeli rampages and suicide bombings?
She has lost it!
