Maxine Waters: Bush Official a 'Haiti-Hater'

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., charged Monday that Bush Assistant Secretary of State Roger Noriega was a "Haiti hater" who had engineered a "coup d'etat" to depose failed Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

"Mr. Noriega at the State Department . . . . he is behind the whole plan," Waters told CNN. "He is known as a Haiti hater and he's in charge of this policy."

The flamboyant one-time head of the Congressional Black Caucus complained that Noriega had a long record of "undermining Haiti, of denying them funding."

Waters said the media hadn't been paying enough attention to Noriega, telling CNN, "You guys ought to find out his history and who he is . . . You really need to dig us up some information here."

She said she personally spoke to both Aristide and his wife on Monday, who told her that he had been driven from power by U.S. diplomats backed by a phalanx of Marine guards.

In a later interview with the Associated Press, Aristide described the group as "white American, white military."

Asked whether she had any reason to doubt Aristide's account, Rep. Waters said she trusted him more than she trusted her own government.

"Listen, I tend to doubt the State Department, and I tend to doubt Mr. Noriega and people who have been in charge of advancing this policy," she told CNN.

"I find that I've been lied to over and over again . . . So I have a lot of questions of my own government at this point."

Bush officials have called the allegation that Aristide was kidnapped "absurd."

Last week, Florida Congresswoman Corrine Brown complained to Mr. Noriega that the Bush administration had "a bunch of white men" running its Haiti policy. When Noriega reminded her that he was a Mexican-American, she responded, "You all look alike to me."

Brown's subsequent apology did little to mollify Texas Rep Henry Bonilla, a key Bush congressional ally of Mexican descent, who is calling for Rep. Brown to resign.

"It is appalling that someone at this level of government would use racist language and not answer for it," Bonilla told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Saturday. "If a Republican had made such derogatory, insulting and discriminatory remarks, there would be a firestorm of outrage."

She trusts Aristide more than our own government...another blame America comment...so sad......may I suggest a one-way ticket to Haiti..she apparently is a *citizen* in the wrong country.

Wyclef Jean says that Haitian President Aristide must step down for Haiti to become secure and avoid civil war. He says that this is the only way to have negotiations with the opposition. Jean was born in in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti.

It is interesting how most Democrats trust Third World dictators and Communist tyrants more than they do any Republican. From their close relationship with Daniel Ortega (including Kerry) to McDermott's visit to Iraq as he spoke on behalf of Saddam. Who can forget Murray's praise of Usama for building roads and daycare centers...while Jimmy Carter looked to the Soviet Ambassador for help in defeating Ronald Reagan. And of course, there's Bill Clinton...who couldn't get enough of that Chinese money as we saw an exodus of American technology to that country. From the days of FDR, as communist infiltrated, not just the Democratic Party, but the highest levels of government...this opposition party has been on the side of our enemies.

More than that, they try to foist their liberal idiocy on other countries that don't need it. Maxine Waters clearly didn't see the dancing in the streets when Aristide fled the country. It must have killed her to hear the people saying, 'everything is going to be okay the americans are here'.

Just calling it like it is. She was all in favor of the LA Riots so she has to be right at home in Haiti. If fact if she was in charge in Haiti we would be sending in troops to put her in exile in Africa too. As I told Neal Boortz if there is a country that needed to be colonized it should be Haiti. Compare and contrast Aruba which is ran by the Dutch to Haiti which is ran by the Haitians.

Big difference between Aruba and Haiti... There's no voodoo subculture and no violent overthrow of colonial power. Dutch colonial society is very different from the French, at least the French in Haiti. French really used Haiti as a slave drop off, and that's not exactly the groundwork for a healthy society. Aruba is mostly run by the citizenry which is 80% mixed race/white and 20%everything else, and the Dutch government is in charge of defense and foreign affairs. All in all a very good balance between independent governance and maintaining ties with the colonial mothercountry. If Haiti followed that path, I wonder how different that country would be.

Maxine Waters has a ghetto drama queen persona though, that rubs most people the wrong way but appeals to enough people that she gets reelected.

Haiti kicked France out a long time ago. I don't see France taking back Haiti ever. Too much special interests would get involved. As for putting Al Sharpton as president, well why put more pain and suffering on people??? He's a legend in his own mind.
