NEW YORK, March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In response to President Bush's call for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, the American Psychoanalytic Association reaffirms its 1997 Marriage Resolution:

"Because marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice, RESOLVED, the State should not interfere with same-gender couples who choose to marry and share fully and equally in the rights, responsibilities, and commitment of civil marriage."

Following discussion, the Marriage Resolution was endorsed by an overwhelming majority vote of APsaA's Executive Council on December 18, 1997, with only one negative vote and one abstention.

What does this have to do with the profession of psychology? Is this outfit a registered PAC?

I am sure one could make a fairly convincing argument based on Jungian psychoanalytic theory that gay marriage is inherently unhealthy and disruptive for society because it is in opposition to the very primitive and ancient notion of the union of opposites: male-female, day-night, positive-negative, ying-yang, God-Soul, etc. Marriage (between a man and a woman) is a very powerful outward social manefistation of this very primal notion of union of opposites and to attempt to unhinge this symbol from it archetypal meaning is inherently disruptive to one of the basic constructs of the human soul and society, and is therefore an attack upon the same.

The problem here is that we have come to accept that all mental illness is that which is manifest in behavior and therefore needs be defined by those charged with either the cure or treatment of such disorders; the psychologists themselves are mostly those from backgrounds with strong emotional conflicts usually associated with childhood experiences and bring this baggage on board when they embark on their quest to make perfect this dreary world.

You can come up with quite a few other articles going back three or four years, mostly in the gay and liberal-left online media, by metasearching on "Matalin +gay +Republican".

This has been going on since 2000 and they've been keeping it out of the papers. Guess why.
