Sweet story. My father still tells the story of the homecoming of my Great Uncle who was a captain Priest in the Army and who got the Silver Star at Anzio. Great Uncle Jim was happy but reserved and in later years told of how war was crap and how he saw the flower of youth on both sides perish (he was 34 already when he volunteered to be a chaplain). Our family relics include a Waffeen Lieutenant's binoculors and his Crucifix that he gave in his dying breaths to my Great Uncle, Father James Cloonan.

I remember watching some of our troops returning from Viet Nam (on tv.) Even as a little girl, it made me cry. I still cry tears of joy for our returning troops, tears of gratitude for the job they did, and tears of sadness for the ones they left behind and the prices they all paid. God bless them.

Yes - there's always that point when the soldiers who have been standing in formation are set free and everyone runs for each other -- I kills me everytime.
