The NRA is America's oldest and most despised "gun control" orginization. The Brady Bunch are mere babes in the woods by comparison.

Anyone who gives money to the NRA should not bitch about gun laws.

Wow! Thank you for this. This is one of the best things I've yet seen posted on FREEP. The NFA should have been struck down in Miller vs. US. Unfortunately, they major judicial precedence on the Second Amendment that we have involved a Hillbilly who disapeared and a backwater lawyer who thought it was too much trouble to travel to Washington to defend this case (I dont' recall, maybe Miller's lawyer didn't even know about the appeal, because I don't think he even filed a brief). We need GWB re-elected plain and simple. It is only a conservative court that will revisit Miller and bring us closer to ridding us of this burden to our freedom. I am going to spend the weekend digesting this post.

I didn't read the entire article but think I got the gist of it.
I have been critical of the NRA on this forum but to be fair the NRA today is not the same as in 1934 or even 1968. It is a lot better but still not what it should be.

Cut them a little slack. Back in 1934 nobody imagined that there'd someday be a move for total civilian disarmanent. The seemingly reasonable and modest restrictions then proposed -- though they were still, in principle, wrong -- did not ring quite the alarm bells that they do today... unfortunately. If only our grandfathers had been a bit more paranoid....

The thing that struck me yesterday when I read this was how similar the proceedings sounded to today's goings on, absent The Swimmer's hysteronics of course. The NRA was still trying to "compromise", for example trying to get the license fees lowered to the point where the average hardware store owner could afford one rather than opposing licensing on basic principals. Although then, as now, they occasionaly made some good points. The gun grabbers, then as now, could not understand that such laws affect only the law abiding, since by definition, criminals don't obey the law.
The only differance between then and now is the accretion of the results of all the NRA "compromises" with the devil.

More ancient history from the NRA hater. There's nothing like causing a little division in the ranks while we are trying to fight the most important gun Rights fights since the clinton years. Anyone want to join me in a trip to the graveyard to complain to those NRA officials?

I've said my piece on the nra numerous times, I believe it mirrors what you believe. What I found most interesting, was the basis of the 1934 ways and means committee. Not one individual west of Nebraska/Texas.
