The Zionist Organization of America of Connecticut College will be sponsoring Ishmael Khaldi at Connecticut College on Monday, March 8th at 7PM. This will be held in Ernst Common Room located in Blaustein Humanities Center (which is the building on the left of the library when you face the library). The topic of the lecture will be One man's story of Israel's culture, society & politics from the perspective of a Bedouin minority in a Jewish state.
Ishmael Khaldi has spoken to thousands of college students and community groups on the details of the unique coalition of the Israeli Bedouin with the newly formed State of Israel and the continuing pride the Israeli Bedouin feel for their country. His story about growing up as a shepherd and becoming an educated world traveler and how he is helping his people make the transition from a traditional nomadic society to contemporary Israeli society is remarkable and inspiring.
Khaldi has served in the Israel Defense Forces, Israel Police, Israel's Ministry of Defense, and he is the Founder and Director of Amitim. He holds a Masters Degree in Political Science from Tel Aviv University.
The Zionist Organization of America, founded in 1897, is the oldest pro-Israel organization in the United States. The ZOA works to strengthen U.S.-Israel relations, educates the American public and Congress about the dangers that Israel faces, and combats anti-Israel bias in the media and on college campuses. Its past presidents have included Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis and Rabbi Dr. Abba Hillel Silver. For more information on the ZOA please visit http://www.zoa.org
