NEW YORK (AP) -- More than a dozen families who lost relatives in the Sept. 11 attacks released a letter Saturday declaring their support for President Bush and his use of images of the destroyed World Trade Center in campaign ads.
"There is no better testament to the leadership of President Bush than Sept. 11," the letter states. "In choosing our next leader we must not forget that day if we are to have a meaningful conversation."
The "Open Letter to America," signed by 22 people who lost loved ones in the trade center, comes as other victims' families asked that the ads be pulled from the airwaves. The spots also show firefighters carrying a flag-draped stretcher.
"In the November election we will have a clear choice laid before the American people," the letter reads. "President Bush is rightly offering us that choice and the images of Sept. 11, although painful, are fundamental to that choice. The images in President Bush's campaign television ads are respectful of the memories of Sept. 11."
When asked about the ads on Saturday, President Bush said he will "continue to speak about the effects of 9-11 on our country and my presidency."
"How this administration handled that day, as well as the war on terror, is worthy of discussion. And I look forward to discussing that with the American people," he said.
Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry told Fox News Channel on Saturday that he personally believed that the ads were inappropriate.
Jimmy Boyle, former president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, said he came up with the "Open Letter to America" after hearing that the president was being criticized for the ads.
"I don't think he's taking advantage of Sept. 11 and I feel that he's given us the leadership that we need," said Boyle, who said he will be voting for a Republican president for the first time in November.

'Some'
Interesting word.....designed to imply "well, we can't just not acknowledge them, but we can imply they're a small, smal minority."
And how many '9-11 families' were enough to start the furor? A few leading acitvists?

Just went through this on FoxNews. . .never mentioned that these rote attacks are initiated from Democrats/Union et al; never mentioned that many of these families of the firefighters support Bush's message.
Carl Cameron let Kerry hammer on Bush actions 'after' 9/11; while never challenging Kerry on his post-war actions. . .including his meeting with the enemy VietCong. . .
Sickening, all of it.

A patient and resolved man. Kind of like when my dog knows there are deer in the yard and she doesn't stop pacing, whining and pestering until we let her out of the house to go investigate for herself. Locked and focused on a particular goal. That's our man Dubya!!!

I really really really dislike the mediaToday's media is a far cry from what the Founding Fathers (yeah, dead white guys) envisioned. Today's newspapers, mags, TV and much of radio are simply house organs for the democRATS. It's really amazing that the GOP's message has managed to get through the media bias filters effectively enough to elect a Republican President and a Republican Congress.

For sure he won't fight dirty - almost laughable to hear Dems pretend 'defense' when it comes to Bush's campaign.
Do wish Bush could appreciate more; that the using the 'sword of truth' againt his attackers; is NOT going negative. . .but rather an engagement of 'fair play'.

How curious...
The national affiliate (ABC or CBS) top-of-the-hour news on my local talk news stations
only mention the wailing of the family members calling Dubya insensitive.
Surely this is just some sort of editorial oversight...

Nothing is more inspiring, and heartwarming, as when good, decent, honest Americans rise to the occasion. Not because they expect reap any rewards or praise, but only because it's the right thing to do.
These are the folks who will reelect our President.

Finally Fox gives it a 'blip'; apparently info not in time for Carl Cameron's earlier interview of Kerry. . .(sure).
But the Heinz/Tides Foundation story is looming as well; and the charade of the Dems remains in tact; but surely, in question.

I did a search and found a photo of Jimmy Boyle, past president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association. Photo is from 9/15/01, he is looking at a picture of his son, Michael, a Firefighter who was killed on 9/11.
"There is no better testament to the leadership of President Bush than Sept. 11," the letter states. "In choosing our next leader we must not forget that day if we are to have a meaningful conversation."
Thank You, Jimmy and all the families for your "Open Letter to America"
