Our 9/11 The attacks happened to us all.
WSJ ^ | 3/8/04 | Debra Burlingame

In the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on our country, the families of those who perished on that day became forever linked through our shared anguish and grief. But "the 9/11 families" are not a monolithic group that speaks in one voice, and nothing has made that more clear than the controversy over the Bush campaign ads.

Thank you Ms. Burlingame - you said it all. To George Soros and Moveon.org and the rest of the American hating thugs -- SHUTUP, we don't want or need you here. If you hate America so much, move to Iran or any other restrictive country and see how your hate speech is received.

Ms. Burlingame - May I suggest that you reconsider your lifelong membership in the Democratic party? That party left you and many others a long time ago.

As I posted on another thread . . .

What these people don't realize is that most Americans who live more than 50 miles from Ground Zero think they are arrogant, narcissistic pains in the @ss. The gall of these families is unbelievable. They talk about "exploiting tragedy," and yet that is exactly what they've been doing for the last two and a half years -- as if their personal tragedies give them the authority to dictate future land uses at Ground Zero, give them veto power over the content of campaign advertisements, etc.

To George Soros and Moveon.org and the rest of the American hating thugs -- SHUTUP, we don't want or need you here.

They do serve at least one useful purpose - the amount of squalling they put up on a given action by the Bush Administration is directly proportional to how much that action worries them. So their loud response indicates their internal polls showed the Bush ads to be quite effective - so the re-elect Bush campaign should do more of them.

Ignore this message at your peril. I am in the process of writing a piece regarding how political debate in this country is being stifled by those who would use personal gain or sacrifice as a bludgeon.
No one was without sacrifice on that day and Democrats ARE masters of emotional manipulation.

Clarification: I was referring to the message of the article not my post.

It is disgusting to see what some of these family members are doing. It is not the president who is exploiting the tragedy of 9/11...it is this small group of family memebers who are using their status as "victims" to advance their own politcal agendas.

As someone who lives WITHIN 50 miles of Ground Zero, we feel the same way about them. Trust me.

Did any of the families claiming the 9/11 experience is exclusively theirs accept taxpayer money from that September 11 fund?

Excellent post; this should be on every op-ed page in the country. None of these critics could say with a straight face that a President Gore would not have referenced 9-11 in his campaign ads.

As one who lives within 50 miles of ground zere I am afraid to say that you are correct. Many of the families feel that their tragedy is theirs alone. While I did lose one former student of mine, a firefighter, I recognize that this was an attack upon the United States. It is not the personal property of the families of the lost. Mrs. Burlingame understands this.

We are going to vote for a president who must lead in a world threatened by terrorism. If a president's response to the attacks of 9/11 are not a subject for the campaign because some who lost loved ones feel offended that is too bad. As Americans we all lost someone that day. Remember that those who died were not killed because of their politics, their jobs, their status in society. They died solely because they were Americans. And as such any one of us could have been, and still may be the target of their killers.

To those who lost loved ones I understand your grief. But you loss, while horrible, is not yours alone. Anymore than the loss of those on the Arizona was limited to their families. If you do not require revenge to help you find solace then I admire you. But we, as a nation, need the justice brought by revenge.

I wonder if there's any correlation between the people who are complaining about this subject and the people who held up the 9-11 victims financial settlement package, looking for a sweeter deal?

Just a thought...

Well said! The Families of 9-11 accusing Bush of "exploiting tragedy" is hypocrisy reaching galactic proportions.

And unless we stop these Islamofascist creeps, a lot more families face similar tragedies. I 'own' the ability to try & protect my family from it, and GW is the best man for that job.

These criticisms of the ads were so clearly orchestrated in advance that I wonder when the planning began. This "Peaceful Tomorrows" organization has been around for a while...when was it started? And when did it start getting funded by Teresa Heinz Kerry?

Read Debra Burlingham's comments on Hardball last week. The Heinz funded critics of Bush and his 9/11 ads do not speak for all survivors of that horrible, horrible day.

Have you noticed that the democrats have not recognized that the terrorists hit the Pentagon?

The Pictures we should show is not New York, but the Pentagon. Kerry thinks we should have criminal prosecution of terrorists. Sorry John, not when you hit the pentagon.
