Dean Admonishes Kerry For Whining When Questioned About His Positions. I think one of the things John is going to have to learn as the front- runner, he is going to have to stop whining when people say things about him that are different. Senator Kerry and I have different records. He voted against the first Iraq war; I supported it. He voted in favor of this Iraq war; I opposed it. Were going to have differences of opinion. John is going to have to learn to be tough. I had to take it all summer. (Howard Dean On CNNs American Morning, 1/27/04)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For Taking Special Interest Money. All that time that John Kerry was taking those hundreds of thousands of dollars from lobbyists, we were getting 89 percent of our contributions from ordinary Americans in small donations. This is how you take the country back from ordinary people, not by nominating yet another special interest clone in Washington. (CNNs Inside Politics, 2/1/04)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For Talking About Health Care But Doing Nothing. I want to take a run at Senator Kerry and give him another rebuttal opportunity here, because he gave what I consider to be a real Washington answer to the last question about mental health. He claimed credit for the mental health parity bill and for helping children get health care. Well, in South Carolina there is 102,000 kids with no health care. Do you have mental health parity? Because if you were in my state, you would. And I dont think what Senator Kerry was talking about has been very much help for the people of South Carolina or anyplace else. With me, youll get results, because Im a governor and Ive done it. And with Washington, no matter what they say, it never seems to trickle down to the people in South Carolina. Dean Admonishes Kerry For Having Thin Record On Health Care Issues. Now, Senator Kerry is the front-runner, and I mean him no insult, but in 19 years in the Senate, Senator Kerry sponsored nine -- 11 bills that had anything to do with health care, and not one of them passed. If you want a president who is going to get results, I suggest that you look at somebody who did get results in my state. Thats how were going to fix Medicare, is to get somebody who has executive experience in governing, particularly in health care, particularly somebody who is a doctor who understands these things, who is willing to get stuff done. And I dont think we are going to do that getting somebody from the United States Senate to be the Democratic nominee. (Democrat Presidential Candidates Debate, Greenville, SC, 1/29/04)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For His Position On Iraq War. But I want to reply to something Senator Kerry said about the war. We have similar sets of advisers, many of us on this stage. Senator Kerry is talking about experience in foreign affairs. His experience led him to give the president of the United States a blank check to invade Iraq.
This was an abdication and a failure on the part of Congress. And Senator Kerry was part of that failure. I dont think thats the kind of experience we need in foreign affairs in the White House. I think we need somebody whos going to make independent judgments and not cede the role of Congress in making foreign policy and declaring war. (MSNBC Democrat Candidates Debate, Des Moines, IA, 11/24/03)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For His Position On Trade. I want a successful trade policy, but Im no longer willing to sacrifice the jobs of middle-class Americans in order to pad the bottom lines of multinational corporations. Trade has to be fair to workers, not just multinational corporations. And I think Senator Kerry is insensitive to the plight of workers--American workers who have lost their manufacturing jobs. (CNBC/Wall Street Journal Democratic Debate, New York, NY, 9/25/03)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For His Ties To Special Interests. Because I think this party needs a new face in front of it. I dont think we can do business the same old way. You know, I mean no disrespect to John Kerry, and if hes the nominee, believe me Im going to support him and vote for him and all that. But we saw yesterday in The Washington Post, hes taken more special interest money than any other senator in 15 years. How can you go after George Bush because of all the dealings with the Medicare bill, which really sent the money to the insurance companies and the HMOs and the pharmaceutical companies, or his energy bill, which really sent the money to the gas and oil bill, if youre the senator whos taken more special interest money in the last 15 years than anybody else? That is not what I came all this way to do for the Democratic Party or for this country. (NBCs Meet The Press, 2/1/04)

Dean Admonishes Kerry For His Hypocrisy On Special Interest Money. John Kerry gets his money the same way George Bush does. I was so angry when I read that article after John Kerry had the nerve--you know, heres whats happening in this campaign. Look, we came out with a very strong message. We shot to the top. All the other candidates took up our message. I thinks thats fine. Imitations is the sincerest form of flattery and its actually great for the Democratic Party that were starting to get some backbone again. Then I come to find out that John Kerry has been running around Iowa and New Hampshire and telling all these Americans that hes going to get the special interests, and who was on the take with the special interests? Not only just got him some special interest money--look, we all have special interest money. Im sure if you went through my campaign, youd find--theres people in special interests, lobbyists, who have given me money and so forth. The senator with the most special interest money over the last 15 years is John Kerry whos just been running around telling all Americans how hes going to get the special interests and dont let the door hit you on the way out. That is exactly whats wrong with American politics and thats why 50 percent of the people in this country dont vote. (NBCs Meet The Press, 2/1/04)

Dean Admonishes Kerry As Flip-Flopping Washington Insider. NBCs TIM RUSSERT: This is what you said to The New York Times last week. [Dean] defined the nomination battle as a choice between [himself] and a Washington insider who shifts back and forth with every poll. Who is that? DEAN: Thats John Kerry. RUSSERT: On what issues? DEAN: Iraq, for one. He couldnt make up his mind whether he was for Iraq or not for the longest time. No Child Left Behind, he voted for that, didnt have the nerve to stand up against that when I did a long, long time ago. (NBCs Meet The Press, 2/1/04)
