Couric on Kerry's "Lying, Crooked" Remark: "Republicans (yes, Republicans) Will Have to be Careful"
The Today Show
Posted on 03/11/2004 4:29:56 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest
As of this morning's Today Show, the world is now officially upside down.
In the wake of John Kerry's impromptu slur captured on tape accusing the Bush administration of being "the most crooked, lying group I've ever seen" guess who should be on the defensive?
Why the Republicans, of course. Just ask Katie Couric. "The Affable Eva Braun of Morning TV" (copyright 2002 Ann Coulter) just completed an interview with NBC political heavyweight Tim Russert.
After playing the tape of Kerry's comments, the obvious question would have been along the lines: "how much does this hurt Kerry?" But no, this is what Katie had to say about the incident:
"Aren't the Republicans going to have to be careful about this in light of Bush and Cheney's less-than-flattering remarks about NY Times reporter Adam Clymer that were caught on tape?"
That's right, Couric dredged up an incident from four years ago in which the candidates thought they were speaking only to each other about a hostile reporter, not the opposing candidate. Compare and contrast with the current situation, in which Kerry slurred his opposition in a remark addressed not to a campaign aide but to a group of supporters.
To his credit, Russert didn't hew to Katie's party line. He admitted that the Kerry campaign was unhappy to have its candidate portrayed in this light.
Conclusion: for the dedicated liberal media there is virtually no event that cannot, with sufficient ingenuity, be spun as a negative for those evil, mean-spirited Republicans. It's going to be a long eight months!

"Aren't the Republicans going to have to be careful about this in light of Bush and Cheney's less-than-flattering remarks about NY Times reporter Adam Clymer that were caught on tape?" Would you not have loved to see someone respond to this stupidity with a blank look and say, "Katie, what the #### are you talking about?"

One of these days, Katie, one of these days!
To: GraceCoolidge
That would be the appropriate response to a lot of what La Couric says. Unfortunately, in this misshapen world, we will never get to see it. And your name is great. Plymouth Notch ping.

"These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group I've ever seen."
This is a misquote. It has been played about 20 times on Hugh Hewitt's show. Kerry actually said,"These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group OF MOTHERS and...", as he lowered his voice further for the implied vulgarity.

ButKatie is a journalist. She is therefore entitled to speak when you and I are required to be silent. George Bush says so, right along with the rest of the "compassionate" crowd--and so he has no beef.
CFR makes "journalist" a title of nobility.

We will have a cure when science invents a smart pill. Liberals are too stupid to become enlightened.

gov: How did you like the show's opening this morning?
Hundreds dead in Madrid from a horrific terrorist attack, but what was their main lead? "President Bush trip to NY not without it's controversy".
Turns out Dubya is helping dedicate a 9/11 memorial on Long Island, then will be attending a fundraiser this evening. There of course will be a couple of left-wing groups protesting. THAT'S IT.
That's their headline, not the huge story of the terrorism, or Kerry's 'crooked' comments, or steroids on Capitol Hill, etc.

Good point. And in the interview with Russert, Couric wouldn't let die the liberal-generated flap over W's campaign commmercials' use of 9/11 images. She dredged it up yet again for Russert's comment.
To: abclily
There's an interesting thought comparison of a liberal brain to a conservative brain.
Compare Katie's brain to Ann Coulter's brain.

Tommorrow on Today, NBC roundtable with Andrea Mitchell, Tim Russert and Chris Matthews on what can the Republicans do to soften their most crooked, lying attributes?
To: Bluntpoint
LOL.
After the Dems' incessant pounding of the last several months, and the lack of a Republican response to date, I found it encouraging that Katie was forced to report the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showing W with a 2-point lead.
When the GOP ads start to air in the next week or so, taking Kerry apart anti-defense vote by vote, the numbers could soon start to look even better.

Just wait until Ms. Couric sees the new, very unflattering picture of herself PLASTERED ACROSS THE FRONT PAGE OF THE GLOBE this coming week!!! Great, nasty article about her, too.

We are heading toward civil unrest in this country the likes of which has never been seen. These people are itching for such a thing to happen and are fueling the fire, but when it happens they wont like it. They think the military would save them in a case of a civil fight. I wonder if the military would stand down and let it all shake out.

John Kerry has peaked and it's all downhill from hereI don't want to jinx things but I tend to think the same thing. Then again there was Dick Morris on FNC last night painting a very grim picture for W. On the other hand, when's the last time he was right about anything - he of the prediction that Hillary wouldn't run for Senate, who know predicts she'll be the VP candidate.

I heard that "mothers" part very clearly when the video clip was played on Bill O'Reilly's show yesterday evening. The more Kerry speaks, the more he shows whatever real self there is under all his pretense. I just hope enough people wake up to what an empty suit he is before November.

Who even watches network TV. Unfortunately, the answer is that millions still do - many more people get their news from the broadcast networks than from cable channels. That's why, among other reasons, I believe it's worthwhile to keep track of liberal bias in the TV media.

what colored outfit is she wearing today? I'm not very observant about that kind of stuff, other than when she wears her mourning black in response to some good news for the country, but I'll go out on a limb and say she might have been in white this morning.

I really thought we were headed for civil war in 2000 if Gore did not admit defeat.
The country is very polarized. I think it's just a matter of time. IMHO, Dubya is going to wipe the floor with Kerry, the GOP will pick up 2-3 seats in the senate and probably 10-12 in the house. 3-4 SC justices will retire and be replaced (hopefully) with conservative judges. The liberals are about to go ballistic.

What was Russert's comment? Russert had been developing a theme along the lines of how the country is very deeply divided, and this was used to substantiate the point - "people feel very differently about this issue."
And by the way, Katie ran some footage by one more outraged 9/11 family survivor claiming she was "not a Democrat" and had voted for W but was still very offended by the use of the footage.
