Books For Soldiers is a soldier support site that ships books, DVDs and supplies to deployed soliders and soldiers in VA hospitals, via our large volunteer network.
If you have old, but usuable paperback books sitting around, collecting dust, why not send them to a solider for a big morale boost?
Many of our volunteers have received email and letters from the soldiers they have adopted.
Help us out, help the troops out, mail them your books.
Special Note to Bloggers!
I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to you blogging folks for helping to spread the word about BFS. If I could impose on you once more to add one of our buttons to your blog, we would be very grateful.

I stumbled upon this website this evening. It's a volunteer effort setup to help get books, magazines, DVD's, etc to our service people oversees.
It's heart-warming to see these sorts of efforts for our fighting men and women.
This is an easy, and an excellent, way to show our support.
Come on fellow Freerpers, let's help them out! Let's make a difference!

Going to the link now and will send them some books again.
Did this at Christmas-time and sent some books I just know that soldiers especially will like.

Assuming this is for real (and it certainly seems to be), I think this is cool! Getting the books is easy. Thrift shops have zillions of them at low prices. Postage and packaging to mail the books to service people are doubtless more difficult. Cash contributions would be in order.

Would it be a really bad idea to send war books to wounded soldiers?

"Would it be a really bad idea to send war books to wounded soldiers?"
Good question. IMHO, I wouldn't send war movies to a wounded soldier unless they specifically asked for them. That being said, I do think that they would make for nice donations in general.
The
Books for Soldiers site has a
bulletin board where soldiers (wounded or not) can ask for specific items if they wish. Some of the biggest requests are simply for post cards or letters, and for blank stationary. There are numerous messages from commanding officers for their men, especially new arrivals.

stationary? Most or many 'dollar' stores sell those 'leather' bound journals with blank pages. Someone could send several of those at a time. I think soldiers wounded in battle should write down a lot of their thoughts and memories. It will come in handy in their future.

Excellent suggestion!
