CA: Governor's views on how to lead may ensnare him

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger caused a stir recently when, appearing on late-night television, he said he wouldn't mind if the people of California voted to legalize gay marriage.

"I believe in domestic partnership," Schwarzenegger told host Jay Leno, endorsing the status-quo alternative to gay marriage. But, the governor added, "If the people change their minds and want to overrule that, that's fine with me."

True....BUT, he knows the voters will never vote for such a thing, so it is perfectly safe to take this position.

Another hit piece on Arnold. It's worth ignoring. He's doing a fine job.

I don't read this as a hit piece on Governor Arnie. He's right about "domestic unions" -- can you say... MSA's? I too support MSA'S and "domestic unions" to that end. I wrangled in support of this years ago. I thought "domestic unions" should include grandchildren living with grandparents, roommates, etc -- all within my goals of tearing apart the monopoly of HMOs. However, the "gay lobby" rejected it: They demanded "domestic unions" ONLY be used to mean and apply to homosexual relationships. Gay lobby got its way. This was very revealing to me.

...he had promised the people that "I would always include them in everything I do."...

Why didn't he ask us if we wanted to abandon a real spending cap ?

"We are serving the people," he said. "It's not a deal that is just made up between us. It is something that has to satisfy, in the end, the people."

That's pure bullcrap and he knows it!!!

"The People" are NOT clamoring for AB 2600 that he's authorized to slap an enormous un-American "Sierra-Nevada Conservancy" land-grabbing extra layer of unaccountable government all over eastern CA!!!

That IS "a deal that is just made up between us!"

AB 2600 looks like a big brother to LAFCO

(a) To protect and enhance natural diversity; natural resources; open space; working landscapes, including forests, woodlands, and agricultural and range lands; riparian areas; watersheds; wildlifehabitat; recreational opportunities; interpretive facilities; public access; and the unique cultural, artistic, and historic resources, within the Sierra Nevada Region.

(b) To assist local economies by increasing tourism and recreation, and by preserving resource economies.

(c) To protect and improve water quality.

(d) To support development and implementation of collaborative and cooperative resource conservation planning efforts.

(e) To support the development and dissemination of educational information on the region's resources.

(f) To support the development and dissemination of technical information and expertise.

(g) To assist in program development and implementation.

(h) To facilitate collaboration between the state and other public agencies, local residents and groups, and organizations throughout the state, that are dependent on the resources of the region, in seeking and developing solutions to the resource conservation challenges facing the region.

(i) To work in cooperation with federal, state, and local governments, and nonprofit organizations, as well as to cooperate in regional efforts with local and state organizations in Nevada, in designing and implementing projects to carry out the purposes of this division.

Most folks moved to the hills to get the hell away from government. The state should pay attention.

It's patterned after "The Tahoe Conservancy," with the "Tahoe Regional Planning Agency"(TRPA) thrown in, along with the CA "Coastal Commission" for good measure (and yes, LAFCO, too! It will be funded with Prop 50 bondage money just to make sure there is enough to muscle private property owners into the coercive "willing seller" hopeless position.

There is a supposedly "defensive" bill by Assemblyman Tim Leslie (AB 1788), also at the behest of Arnold the government expander, but it sucks canal water as there appears to be no defense from the mad land grabbers who now have the muscular Governor in complete tow.

We already have an association of mountain county County Supervisors that was formed just a few years after the infamous "Cows Don't Vote" Warren Court decision as a defense against this very kind of metro-sexual take-over by the idle rich in the coastal counties with their huge voting blocks.

We are already literally helpless in this onslaught by the huge blue voting liberal counties as evidenced by the same then State Senator Tim Leslie failing in his attempt to get a ballot measure past a decade ago to thin out the heard of mountain lions up here around the time one ate the female jogger across the road from us.

There is NO surging outcry from the public for this debacle of an idea and there is certainly no desire for this governmental activism anywhere in the region... just an inexperienced Governor being hornswaggled by a few militant activists eager to enslave the whole Sierra-Nevada range in "The Tradegy Of The Commons!"

Even if we collected enough signatures to qualify a defensive ballot measure, the lying bastards would buy enough "Lying Celebrity Advertising" to easily vote it down, just as they bought Jack Lemmon to decieve the public about Prop 98 that mandates 40% of every budget automatically go to schools and thus to teachers unions and their FAT pensions.

The new employees of "The Sierra-Nevada Conservancy" will recieve a FAT rate of pay and retire RICH at the expense of massive amounts of Sierran property owners and impoverished local mountain county governments that can't even maintain their paved over horse trails called "roads," today!!!

Check into the salaries and pensions of current "Tahoe Conservancy" employees today, if you don't believe what I'm saying!!! I truly wish Arnold would abandon this folly so I could support him fully, in good conscience. I'd really love to "Join" some of the rest of FReeperdom in their love of this guy, but he's a very real threat to the economic well being of this huge region at the moment.

The Sierra-Nevada Conservancy will be bigger than many states east of the Mississippi!!! Come on, CA FReepers, please don't turn a blind eye on this unnecessary disgrace. It will NOT help CA's economy as the Sierra is worth more than a playground for GANG-GREEN!!!

I can't relate. I voted for for Arnold not because I love him but because it was the only way of defeating cruz bustamante...a strategy some, apparently, still can't understand.

"I can't relate."

Of course you can't! You've overdosed on your Bustamonte phobia so badly you can't even see the forest for the trees!

Maybe someday you'll move out to a beautiful bucholic pastoral area in the Sierra foothills with some acreage and have a "Republican" celebrity Governor get talked into slapping a wet economic blanket all over your region for all time!

It wouldn't bother you, though, because all you could think of is Bustamonte! If Bustamonte had made it to Governor, we would have no trouble at all getting you and your buddies to "relate!" Yes, even fight!!!

As it is... since he's a Republican... you and your buddies will just look the other way and turn a blind eye to a huge wrong!!! It would just be too embarrassing to even suggest to our esteemed Governor that he's making a huge mistake by adding more useless layers of unnecessary GOVERNMENT BLOAT!!!

Overdosed? Accepting a reality that's shunned by others is hardly overdosing. Your mischaracterization clearly indicates that my previous statement applies quite well to you. You don't get it and never will. You're appeasement lies in your hatred of Arnold. So be it.

Maybe someday you'll move out to a beautiful bucholic pastoral area in the Sierra foothills with some acreage and have a "Republican" celebrity Governor get talked into slapping a wet economic blanket all over your region for all time!

Not that it's any of your business but I live on 3-1/2 green acres in east San Diego County. Last October, we needed to defeat bustamante. Arnold was the only man who could do it. His "celebrity" means nothing to me now and it meant nothing to me then. But it does seem pleasing to you to go on about it. So be it, again.

It wouldn't bother you, though, because all you could think of is Bustamonte! If Bustamonte had made it to Governor, we would have no trouble at all getting you and your buddies to "relate!" Yes, even fight!!!

It bothers me, but I won’t make a fool of myself ranting over it. But, if it makes you feel good to do so, go right ahead.

As it is... since he's a Republican... you and your buddies will just look the other way and turn a blind eye to a huge wrong!!!

If you believe that, why did you ping me...so I could read your latest rant? Don’t waste my time.

It would just be too embarrassing to even suggest to our esteemed Governor that he's making a huge mistake by adding more useless layers of unnecessary GOVERNMENT BLOAT!!!

The embarrassment's all yours. Perhaps if you tried to maintain what little sanity you have left you would embarrass yourself a bit less. It's your call.

Ok , as long as it doesn't directly effect you where you live, it's just too bad... whatever. You helped me make the point! Hasta La Vista, Baby!!!

I pinged you in the vain hope that as such a rabid fan of his, maybe you would make some small effort to help him see the unimaginable error in this huge expansion of more multi-level government in a state suffocating in government nonsense already. That is all. You are dismissed!

I've tolerated most of your enthusiasm but the comment in your reply is ill advised and misplaced.

Sierra Wasp has a valid point regardless of his political philosophy or his opinion of our current governor.

Expansion of government, regardless of motive is bad. Expansion of a bloated, bankrupt government is worse. AB2600 would be terrible even if the state could afford to finance it.
