Local soldier killed in Iraq

Chad Clark describes his roommate, Jocelyn Carrasquillo, as a guy who would give you the shirt off his back.

Now memories are all Clark has--Carrasquillo died in Iraq this weekend while serving as a National Guardsman in the 120th Infantry Division.

Five years ago, Carrasquillo and his three friends moved from Goldsboro to Wrightsville Beach.

Nicknamed Joce, his friends say he loved the beach, which is where he spent his last days in the states before being deployed.

Friends gathered at Carrasquillo's apartment on Monday in disbelief.

"[He] never backed down from his duties, he didn't have a malicious bone in his body - you just don't believe this would happen," says a close friend.

Carrasquillo was trained for supply work, an assignment that didn't worry his family and friends. Now they want to know what happened.

Carrasquillo has a twin brother, Ronnie, also serving overseas. His face now a constant reminder of a life gone too soon.

. . . National Guardsman in the 120th Infantry Division.

Small clarification -- this hero was serving in the 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry, part of the 30th Enhanced Heavy Separate Brigade (Mech) of the North Carolina Army National Guard.
