I love the smell of toast in the morning . . . or the afternoon, or the evening. Buh bye, Johnny Gigolo. (Assuming this news is verifiable and solid.)

Geez, I just know we are gonna have Edwards or *gag* Hill if we shoot our wad to quick here :)

Yeh, but if the new annointed is Hillary, she would love being 'exposed' to the world for only a few weeks (between the Convention and election).

It would be better to get her on the campaign trail now--so there is plenty of time to investigate and interrogate her.

"130,000 casualities a month"

WHAT?? I thought there were 58,000 total for the war.

Kerry is caling VN, "Nixon's war." Nixon took office in 1969.

Assuming Nixon would have been inaugurated about January 20, 1969, he would have been in office a whole month before Kerry came home from Vietnam for good. That's one month of "Nixon's [very much inherited] War" to IIRC three months of "Johnson's War." [Kerry spent a total of about four months on swift boats in Vietnam.]

It will always be "Nixon's War" to the left. They're allowed to lie.

Now that is pretty strong stuff. Does wintersoldier.com mention the Firing Line appearance or did you get that elsewhere?

If you follow the link at the top of this post, you can see everything we've added. It includes an ad and a radio schedule for the Firing Line event; the latter on the day of the debate. I'd love to find the transcript...

I suspect it'll take considerably more than this to sink Kerry.

This is just another brick in the boat...

WHAT?? I thought there were 58,000 total for the war.

That's the total number of Americans killed.

Kerry was probably counting all casualties in the theater, times some fudge factor. Or maybe he just made it up. After all, this is the guy who spoke of "200,000 a year who are murdered by the United States of America" during his testimony before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

The full text is posted at WinterSoldier.com.

On casualties. For the military casualties consist of those killed, wounded, and/or missing in action. Depending how one 'defines' casualties on can get different totals. The 58,000 is only for US killed in action. One can also get various totla numbers for killed, wounded and missing in action for US, South Vietnamese, Australian, South Korean, New Zealand and Thai troops during the course of the Vietnam war (using dates of 1963-74)

I have no idea where the 130,000 figure comes from, if it is from the VVAW then it is probably from the sphincter research department. Numbers are available for the Friendly Casualties in Vietnam, except for the final year of the war between the south and north vietnamese in 1974-5. No casualty figures were collected on final South Vietnamese casualties by the US Army as far as I know, or at least weren't kept as part of the previous monthly total of casualties.

I doubt if the South Vietnamese, after they were out of ammuniton and over run by the 30+ divisions of the North Vietnamese Army, had anyone left to keep and relay to the US their final figures. Of course all those executed in the re-education camps don't count, especially for Jane, John and the other folks who supported 'uncle Ho.'

C-SPAN had a notice that they will replay Kerry's 1971 testimony in front of the US Senate. Sorry, I didn't catch the time.

It was '71. They really thought the Weathermen, etc. were the winning team...

Not only that, it was still *hippie days* and everyone really thought no one would ever rat out another revolutionary. That lasted another 6-8 months or so, IIRC, and then the organizational purges began.

It was very Stalinesque.
