About 15 or 20 years ago the "scare du jour" was a pesticide called Alar, used by apple growers. All the Hollyweird types went nutso over it, and it got a lot of publicity. A year or so later it was proven to be bunk.

Buspar isn't an antidepressant and has nothing to do with any of the drugs the article is about.

Thanks for sharing! This IS extremely important information for anyone to know about. I am shocked every day at what some doctors are prescribing their patients when it comes to SSRIs, MOAIs etc. Drugs like Zoloft/Prozac are only meant to be used by humans for 6 months or less. There have not been enough studies done on long term usage. And, since depression is medically classified differently than manic-depression, bipolarism, schizophrenia it is difficult for an M.D. to know what to prescribe if they do not have the training and clinical experience....as you well found out.

If you or anyone else wants the name of an excellent book on the subject, FReepmail me.

Parent after parent described children who had become extremely agitated or anxious shortly after starting the antidepressants, and seemingly sudden impulses that turned deadly.

Parents really need to watch their children if they take any of these drugs for depression. My son took Zoloft for depression when he was a teen. He was very depressed but not suicidal. The Zoloft made him so impulsive it even scared him. His doctor told him not to ever take SSRIs again. He is now on an old fashioned antidepressant and is doing well under the circumstances.

Simulated Depression....

Set your TV to a station showing that (the whole world might be coming to an end or your family might be dying live on TV) have the TV set to black and White, and have the whole thing look like a real honest to God -no shit- newscast and then have some well meaning family and/or friends whisper in your ear that you need to pull yourself up by your boot straps and shake it off....

Then look at the TV and see pictures (of the world might be coming to an end or your family might be dying live on TV) the TV pictures are in black and White, and the whole thing is a real honest to God -no shit- newscast and then have some well meaning family and/or friends whisper in your ear that you need to pull yourself up by your boot straps and shake it off and that you are lazy...

PS You can't turn the TV off and you can not get away from it...

My son had issues with paxil. I can absolutely believe that some people just don't metabolize these meds well. There is a population of people who are allergic to penicillin too. That doesn't mean the drug is bad in general.

But we need to get ALL of the information. Had anyone told me that agitation was a dangerous side effect, I could have gotten help for my son 4 days earlier and spared us all a very frightening experience. One that is still affecting us two years later.

Didn't see Accutane on the list. The U.S. Representative for my district in Michigan has an interest in this issue:

U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak, (Dem. Michigan) & info on accutane

This story is only involved with the latest bunch of antidepressants. Accutane is for people that failed all other treatments for severely disfiguring acne. Accutane can have many different adverse effects. Thanks for the link.
