Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy has insisted he is not ill and does not have a drink problem.
Mr Kennedy pulled out of last week's budget debate blaming a violent stomach bug.
Fears over his health escalated when he appeared unwell during his speech to the party's spring conference.
But he insisted: "I am not ill. I have had a bad stomach bug, but apart from that I am in good health and in good temper."
Critics have claimed Mr Kennedy is suffering from self-doubt. And he has been persistently dogged by rumours of his drinking habits.
But speaking on ITV News he said: "I certainly do not have a drink problem. I have always been a sociable person and I am not about to change that.
"But that is no impediment or interference with my life in general or leadership in particular."
I suppose there isn't, especially since I don't even know the man. My experience is limited to people I've known who really were alcoholics.
...most people who aren't alchoholics generally don't need to be asked if they have a problem, ya know?
Yep!
While I agree TK's ramblings are usually delerious and he trembles, I don't think it is the DT's.
Assuming it's alcohol related, he's just suffering from withdrawal. Alcohol supresses the CNS, causing the body to
produce more of the regulating "chemicals" to compensate.
Stop the booze and the body ends up producing more that what is needed, on overdrive, if you will. Hence the shakes.
It takes a few days to re-calibrate the production. Or it takes a depressant drug (including alcohol) to counter.
Cold turkey is dangerous because of high blood pressure and other assorted dangers.
Duh!--what does being sociable have to do with being a drunk?
