While sometimes I do get annoyed by Republican FReepers who hold leftist opinions on certain issues, not to mention the silly threads on some aging entertainer's boob or which tubby fellow in shiny tights manhandled the stuffed pigskin where, this is really a good forum to share, analyze, and spread conservative viewpoints.

Well, dang it. I guess I'm gonna have to take my crusade for world socialism to another board.

Seriously, I have to confess a certain pity for the poor sods whose intellectual depths are plumbed in posting one of those "you're all nazis" things and then scramming. I think it's a sign of a serious misapprehension of what FR really is - it isn't a chat room, it isn't a bulletin board, and although nearly anyone who makes the effort to be halfway civil is heard out, is is not really egalitarian either. The cruelest hierarchies are those of merit.

It's that last point that makes some of the less capable left-wingers unhappy. The notion that any opinion must be accorded respect equal to any other is entirely fallacious and is not an expression of equal political rights, but rather a demand for no standards from those who find it impossible to live up to any. Nor is it an expression of "fairness," but of nihilism.

This is a very special phenomenon, this "place" we're in here. Thanks for keeping your door open - if sometimes something wanders in that oughtn't, don't feel bad about shooing it out.
