Boy John, you are on to something here. How Machiavellian of the Bush administration to have the foresight to see that Clarke would come out with this book, and before he had even planned the book arranged for him to give a background briefing to some reporters (such briefings are taped), and to ensure that of all the reporters present, one would be Jim Angle. And then, when Clarke would get the idea for the book, resign, and contradict everything that he said in the briefing, they would give clearance for that briefing to be released. Those bastards!

Actually, what happened was that Angle remembered the background briefing, asked if it could be used, and the White House, which had the tape, had to approve its release, since it was originally just for background.

Are you suggesting that the administration should have refused to provide the tape of the meeting which Angle remembered?
