Help! I am living overseas for several years, and have not filed income taxes during that time... I always meant to, but...
Anyway, I have never earned over the taxable minimum of some $70,000.00 before, so no taxes would have been payable as far as I know. But I think that I was supposed to file anyway... but haven't.
What should I do? Any ideas? Should I come clean to the IRS, and if I do so, will I be fined (remember, I wouldn't have paid any taxes anyway...)
I will make over this amount this year and so will file and pay any taxes due, but want to decide the best way to handle previous years, without shooting myself in the foot!

Consult with a good tax lawyer first and foremost followed by a good CPA.

Ummm. The minimum is not $70,000...
That aside, if no taxes are due, then there is no tax and interest to worry about. There may be late-filing penalties. Go to the IRS website. www.irs.gov.

Welcome to FR.
I would talk to a tax specialist or tax lawyer, and take their advice.
Mostly likely you will have to file for all the non-filed years, pay any taxes owed, and penalties and interest on those payments owed.
On the flip side, you signed up on FR to just post this?

No, I"ve been FReeping for years. But I"m not going to use my REAL screen name for that question. Nor my REAL IP address.
Awww, come on. The question is legit, and it will be an interesting thread for others too.

Have no fear you might be OK.
I know of a few people who neglected to file for several years not one was ever in danger of jail. I have a friend who didnt file for nearly seven years. the penalies were expensive but he still got several thousand dollars back.
Get a good accountant and let him/her deal with it.

Change your registration to Democrat and get elected to Congress. Then you get a bye. Ask Eleanor Holmes Norton about the details.

Check first with a/your CPA for advice and then consult a tax lawyer - if needed. Never the other way around....

I don't blame you, and I don't know why others are skeptical. You need some help from a professional and that's not me. Hopefully, the professional will cost you more than any fines.
