WASHINGTON - Terrorists could attempt to influence the outcome of this year's U.S. presidential election by launching attacks in America and overseas, FBI Director Robert Mueller said Thursday.
Mueller also said Islamic extremists have changed tactics and are focusing on recruiting local sympathizers who are less likely to arouse suspicion than outsiders sent into a country to conduct terrorist operations.

They certainly will and the 9/11 Commisssion has made it clear that the government can protect aginst everything as long as the policy and resources are present.
It is a bar so high that no American administration can hope to achieve it.

I tend to believe that another attack on American soil will guarantee Bush's re-election.
Therefore, we will see no attack until after the election.

Well........ I think it is safe to assume that any attack meant to influence our election indicates that our ENEMIES prefer one candidate over another.
Hmmmmmmm.....I wonder who and why????
All joking aside, this should startle people to their senses.

In the wake of what happened in Madrid we have to be concerned about the possibility of terrorists attempting to influence elections in the United States by committing a terrorist act," Mueller said. You mean like LYING to an INVESTIGATIVE COMMISSION (on 9/11)
or Selling out the U.S. to the United Nations
or Accepting donations from Organized Crime figures
or Lying about being at a meeting where discussion of the assassination of US Senators was the topic?
or RIGGING the VOTES?

It is a bar so high that no American administration can hope to achieve it. Perfection is an unreasonable goal, you nailed it. The battle between good and evil is more personal than human nature wants to admit. Government has a role, but it is not the sole source of solution.

I tend to believe that another attack on American soil will guarantee Bush's re-election. I think you're right. If it rains, dims are scared to leave their homes to vote. I get so wound up on election day, I'm one of the first ones to vote and I practically foam at the mouth in anticipation.

Imagine multiple suicide/homicide bombings of shopping malls, baseball games, elementary schools, etc.. Unfortunately, I think the Left/Soccer moms/Gore voters, would start to clamor for appeasment/withdrawl from Iraq/Afganistan. (And if before the election, the election of John "it's a law enforcement problem" Kerry.)

"Mueller also said Islamic extremists have changed tactics and are focusing on recruiting local sympathizers who are less likely to arouse suspicion than outsiders sent into a country to conduct terrorist operations."
You mean they might use disgruntled Americans to assist in their carnage? I believe they "may" have already done this in Oklahoma. There appears to be a natural alliance between radical Muslims and some of our own Mighty Whitey groups, who both share hatred for Jews and the idea of a so-called Zionist conspiracy right here in America. The rhetoric between these two groups is almost indistinguishable. When we also add our own liberal hate groups, there could be a wealth of potential enemies ready to join with Islamic terrorists.

Islamic extremists have changed tactics and are focusing on recruiting local sympathizersI can't envision anything that would be more of an FBI matter than "local sympathizers" of a movement upon which we've declared war.
So this is 100 percent Mueller's responsibiility.
Get to work, dude!

I think this so called 911 commission is certainly inviting an attack by making us appear weak, stupid, and with lousy intelligence. If this happens, I won't blame the Bush administration, I will blame those RATS on this Kangaroo court freak show. (and the terrorists, of course)
