I would have told the cop, sure I'll be quite, but first you must give me a written order, signed by you, and I like to see you ID too to confirm it. He could deny till the end of time a verbal order but having to write it down would have probably caused him to back off.

Unfortunately, disobeying a federal officer's order can get you in big trouble. One landowner has been denied bail after the feds arrested him for allegedly interfering with them as they confiscated his cattle.

I suggested getting his badge number. I don't think he has to give a written order, since our experience in the past is that permits are, in the opinion of DC's Finest and other LEOs "revokeable" on the spot if they feel the situation is getting out of hand (it wasn't.)

There is no point to antagonizing LEOs. They are there to keep the peace and we respect that.
