Teenager promised sex with virgins if he blew himself up near soldiers
By Ellis Shuman and israelinsider staff March 25, 2004
"I wanted to get to the Garden of Eden, to have sex there with 72 virgins," said 14-year-old Hussam Abdu, who approached an army roadblock near Nablus yesterday with 8 kilograms (14 pounds) of explosives wrapped around his waist. Alert IDF Paratroopers suspected the teen bomber, and helped him cut off the belt. It was the second time in ten days that Nablus terrorists have sent a young boy on a bomb mission.
"They told me that this was the only way (to get to Heaven), and they promised that my mother would get one hundred shekels ($22) if I did this," Hussam told the soldiers after the belt was removed. Hussam said that after being bullied in school, he wanted "to be a hero."
Hussam's path to the Garden of Eden was planned to pass through the Huwara roadblock, south of Nablus, where ten days ago an alert Border Policewoman spotted an innocent-looking 12-year-old carrying a heavy bag with wires protruding from it.
Abdallah Quran was an unsuspecting bomb courier. The Tanzim terrorists who sent him planned to blow him up alongside the soldiers at the roadblock.
But unlike Abdallah, Hussam willingly planned to blow himself up. A student in the eighth grade in Nablus, Hussam said he was picked on by his classmates for being an "ugly dwarf. I was so hurt, I wanted to kill myself," he said, talking to Israeli newspaper reporters.
Hussam approached the Huwara roadblock yesterday wearing an oversized red jersey. According to one report he rushed towards the soldiers, and another report said that Palestinians nearby distanced themselves from the boy.
"We saw that he had something under his shirt," said Lt. Tamir Milrad, an IDF officer at the checkpoint.
The soldiers dove behind concrete barricades, pointed their guns at Hussam and called on him to stop. They ordered him to take off his jersey, revealing a bulky gray bomb vest underneath.
"He told us he didn't want to die. He didn't want to blow up," Milrad said.
Following the soldiers' orders, Hussam removed the battery from his bomb, but apparently had difficulty removing the explosives belt by himself. The army sent a bomb-removal robot to hand scissors to the boy so that he could cut off the vest. He cut off part of it and struggled with the rest. "I don't know how to get this off," he said.
After Hussam dropped the vest, soldiers ordered him to take off his undershirt and jeans, to ensure that he had no other weapons on him. After the boy was led away, wearing an Israeli army parka, IDF sappers destroyed the bomb in a controlled explosion.
"In addition to the fact that he would have harmed my soldiers, he would have harmed also the Palestinians waiting at the checkpoint and there were 200-300 innocent Palestinians there," said Lt.-Col. Guy, a Paratroopers Brigade battalion commander at the roadblock.
Hussam told Yediot Aharonot that when the terrorists strapped on the explosives belt, he was petrified. "I didn't tell anyone what I was going to do. When I reached the roadblock, I was scared less and less. But the soldiers stopped me and I didn't press the detonator. I changed my mind. I no longer wanted to die."
Hussam Abdu's volunteering to serve as a suicide bomber will change the perception that economic straits lead Palestinian youths to choose "martyrdom" operations as the only way out of their problems, Yediot Aharonot reported.
"We had no problems," Hussam said. "I had a computer, and I played computer games. I heard a lot of music on the Internet. I once wanted to work with electronics when I grew up. I wanted to open a television and radio repair shop in Nablus. Now they'll send me to jail for 25 years. I don't want to be in prison."
Hussam's family said that he was mentally retarded. "He doesn't know anything," his brother, Hosni, said. His mother said she was surprised. "Hussam left home this morning to school, and this was the first we hear of what happened," Tamam Abdu told Reuters. "This is shocking. To use a child like this is irresponsible, forbidden."
"This is another horrific example of how the Palestinians use their own children to spread terror against Israelis," David Baker, an official in the prime minister's office, said in response. "These children are turned into human time-bombs for the purpose of spreading as much terror against Israelis as possible," Baker added.
"Israelis do not understand how Palestinians are willing to sacrifice their own children in order to kill ours," said Dore Gold, an adviser to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
According to Army Radio, the army has increased its pressure on the terrorist infrastructure in Nablus, and as a result, the terrorists there have resorted to using children and women as their bombers, and to attacking soldiers at army roadblocks just outside the city.
"I wanted to get to the Garden of Eden, to have sex there with 72 virgins You know it's bad when even the 14-year-olds have trouble finding virgins. |
I guess it'd make more sense to me if their campaign promo said "72 women" would be theirs forever. But then, that makes the guy think about how's he going to manage to keep the peace with 72 harpies, and that probably would take off some of the sheen.
And the answer is... keep the Palestinians together in groups while they are being searched.
Amen, pass the raisens...

At the very least he should have asked for it in advance! (cant believe I said that
)
Well since they strap the explosives around their middles I suspect the fact they are virgins is something they can do nothing about after the blast, so they stay virgins eternaly.
