OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A public school suspended nearly all of its sixth-graders for class disruptions and a cafeteria ruckus this week, though many of the students were allowed to return after their parents met with school officials.

Sixteen of the 147 sixth-graders at F.D. Moon Academy were suspended Monday for class disruptions, and 120 students were suspended Wednesday after they picked up cafeteria tables, slammed them to the floor and talked back to faculty, school officials said.

We saw this covered on the news the other night, and they held a meeting with the parents of the sixth-graders following the event. You could tell the parents whose kids would be less likely to be troublemakers from those who would start or participate in this sort of thing. They interviewed a father of a student who was calm, reserved, and well-spoken. Then they showed part of the meeting where a mother was throwing a little temper tantrum because her 'baby' got in trouble.

And you wonder why our local homeschool group (here in a small town east of OKC) went from 18 families last school year to over 60 families (and still growing) this year. And if my 'student' (age 5) acts up, she better look out when the principal--aka Daddy--gets home!

You don't need webcams, just parents that show up once or twice a year at school. Most people don't realize that they have the RIGHT to be in the school to observe their child's education.

I had dinner with friends the other night. One woman tried substituting for awhile. She said the kids were maniacs. She told the school she wouldn't come back, but they keep calling her. Her teenage son told her to please forget it.

The area is changing and not for the better. She and her husband think it's time to move.

You don't need parents that show up or webcams - simply revive the Roman practice of decimation. 90% of the students in the school will shape up pretty quickly. Or perhaps 81% if two rounds are necessary.

Hmm, my parents would have beaten me into the next week if I EVER did anything like this, and that includes being disrespectful to ANY adult or anybody in authority.

Remember the sixth graders passed the previous five grades to get there...so much for social promotion. These kids also bring the manners and attitudes that they learn (or don't learn) at home.

If that is a magnet school for media communications, it sounds like it trained most of our current batch of media reporters.
