My unlikely bridge to the right [NPR type moves right]
Washington Times ^ | March 27, 2004 | Paul Beston

A few years ago, I worked for a struggling dot-com in Manhattan whose work force was almost uniformly liberal. Given my conservative orientation, I saw little sense in getting involved in workplace political discussions. My silence was interpreted as acquiescence until I could stand it no longer and fessed up. One co-worker, who had served on the committee that hired me, felt betrayed.

You're right - it was a good read after all.

Humanism + Eliteism = Liberalism.

That pretty much sums up the inlaws.

I was a liberal -- I supported LBJ over Goldwater, I hated Nixon, and watched Watergate unfold with something approaching glee. I saw the light during Jimmy Peanuts time at the helm. The contrast between Jimmy's miserable incompetence and Ronnie's uplifting optimism were too much to resist.

Been here for years. This was the best source for election 2000 info by far, and various Clintonian scandals back when I merely lurked. Heh heh.

Thanks for the article. It gives me some writers to look up. And I've been meaning to read "Slouching toward Gomorrah" for some time.

A fascinating piece of truth...

I wish Dr. Steele was more of the column-writing type; his wisdom is needed in the daily grind.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Then came "Bridges." Now I would have to read and hear what the conservatives were thinking.

Yep....that started me on my way. Funny what a long drink from Atlas Shrugged will do.

With my new found wisdom, I had concluded that liberals were simply wrong.

Race was the hook on which liberals hung their moral authority. Without it, I had nothing left to hold onto.

After watching the sliming of Clarence Thomas, I concluded that their leaders were not simply wrong....but evil.

I have never looked back.

Correction...my dad informed me that NPR stands for National Pinko Radio...

I can always instantly determine someone's politics by when they say, "I heard a piece on NPR the other day"...

Better late than never, expatpat! Despite the embarrassment of Watergate, I'm still proud I voted for Nixon and would vote for even him over McGovern anytime anyday.

Now when it comes to Ronnie: the best there ever was... the best there ever will be.

"Bridges" was a fabulous show. I missed for quite awhile after it was pulled and had forgotten it. Thanks for the excellent note.

Thank you Roscoe, an excellent read. If you don't mind, I have some liberal friends I'd like to send this too. I always try to think it's not too late for them to see the perspective that we do.

The reverse does not seem to exist. I don't recall ever reading an essay where a conservative makes a similar change.

There is a basic truth to the old saying, if when you're twenty and you're not a liberal you have no heart, and if you're not conservative when you're fifty you’ve got no sense.

We call it National Proletariat Radio in these parts. Smug, self-assured liberals who are so blinded by their dogma they even think they are too "conservatively" biased.
