Probably a good idea actually.
There seem to be some people in the world who haven't a clue as to how to build a Hoover Dam . . . but are hell bent on being destructive nonetheless.

The 3.5-mile, $234 million Hoover Dam bypass, which includes a river-spanning bridge, Well that's good.....it'd be hell to drive around it.

I've been stuck waiting to cross Hoover dam a few times. Glenn Canyon dam which already has a seperate bridge never has a traffic problem. Both dams are excellent places to visit.

stiil, I am glad I got to drive over this thing several times, it was quite an experience. like driving across florida on the old alligator alley, before they widened it to two lanes with a divider, it was wild stuff.

THIS IS GREATER SECURITY?
Somewhat.
But . . . along comes the semi trailer/container . . .
A special panel opens and the rocket fires straight for the damn scant 100's of feet away.
Seems like something should be done to insure such did not happen.

You would think another bridge would have been built years ago.

I think there is also another reason for the Hoover Dam bypass bridge: it will make it possible to turn the entire route from Las Vegas, NV to Kingman, AZ into a full freeway--and possibly the route could get a full three-digit Interstate Highway designation (I-110 from Kingman, AZ to the bridge, and I-115 from the bridge to downtown Las Vegas). Works for me!

I'tll be the best bridge by a dam site.

Far as I know, truck traffic is already banned over the dam. they have to go down to Laughlin or Needles to cross. The make all passenger traffic and tour busses go through a checkpoint before crossing. Our tour bus had a cop board and look through it before we could go on (fall of 2002).

About dam time. That is without a doubt the scariest piece of road I have EVER been on.
There is very little rainfall there, so windshield wipers aren't much of a priority. Until one night my daughter and I had to go that way. It began to POUR rain. There was no place to pull over, unless you wanted to go sideways, down the clift. Consequently, she had to lean out of the window to see. Even then, there was almost zero visibility. Going about 15 MPH, she had to follow the white stripe in the road. That was the scariest of the scary trips I made via that dam.
