NEA commits $1.75 million to try to unionize charter-school teachers

Most charter schools currently operate without a union, and a study last July by the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research showed that charter schools slightly outperformed public schools serving similar student populations. The nations largest teachers union has announced an aggressive campaign to organize charter-school teachers, beginning in California, one of the first states to allow charter schools.

There goes the neighborhood. If the NEA can't stop them ,they will try and control them.

No. NO.
I went to a charter school. It's currently the best charter school in the city of Philadelphia, doing better than many public schools.
Having non-union teachers is a big part of the success.

Not that charter schools are a great improvement over the "standard" government funded education, NEA involvment can only be a bad thing. Did anyone ever tell these money grabbers that it's about the children, not dues???

There goes the neighborhood. If the NEA can't stop them ,they will try and control them. Most charter schools are non-union specifically so they can hire teachers who may be good in the classroom but lack the certificate and the indoctrination of the NEA. I hope the teachers realize what they have and stay out of the union. Signed, former teacher who was forced to join the union.

Ok, someone needs to change their name. I assume they are talking about the National Education Assoc. and not the National Endowment for the Arts.

To save education, the teachers' union must be crushed.
