MAINE TOURISM BUSINESSES SAY 'HELP WANTED'

Tourism businesses in Maine are struggling to fill openings for the summer season. The Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit can't fill ten of their positions. If they don't have enough chambermaids, the resort might have to close a section of the hotel this summer.

The tourism industry hopes congress raises the cap on visas and is trying to come up with a back-up plan in case that doesn't happen.

The Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit can't fill ten of their positions.

They could if they offered more money.

It is a moral sin in the Catholic Church to import labor for the purposes of keeping wages low.

Huh? Talk about outsourcing. I thought ME had a fairly high statewide unemployment rate. Now the Dems want to import cheap foreign labor? Hypocritical much?

I *LIKE* Ogunquit... If it made financial sense to me, I'D fill one of those positions... except I refuse to wear the maid uniform. I'm not into cross-dressing.

>>The tourism industry hopes congress raises the cap on visas<<

Next time you hear people talking about raising the number of Visas for highly-educated foreigners to fill jobs, you know what they are talking about. These jobs simply need more brilliant minds than our universities are capable of turning out!

What's your source for this?

The Dems would have to go along to get the cap raised.

Looks like there are plenty of people in Maine who could use the work, and they are a lot closer to those jobs than people in Mexico and Central and South America are:

ME would be off adressing how to get citizens who want to work to where the jobs are.

The "backup plan" is raise wages.
Republican employers are addicted to cheap foreign labor. They should plan to raise wages until they can attract Americans to take the jobs.

"Republican employers are addicted to cheap foreign labor. They should plan to raise wages until they can attract Americans to take the jobs."

And you should be ready to pay for it through higher prices and increased inflation.

I don't want to hear it. I hope Maine Tourism chokes this year. The way the government is treating everyone, we are telling people to go to NH and enjoy themselves. Let the Guv scratch his own butt and wonder what's going on. As if he didn't know! humph!

Yes, they're only three or four hundred miles away.

That would certainly make a long commute.

They are also probably personally unsuitable for waiting on wealthy tourists, after spending their lives cutting timber and digging clams.

They make me sick. If the Somali's could speak English, then THEY could take the jobs. Hell, they are taking everything ELSE from the state!

Well, what a wonderful opportunity for the "undocumented" to blend into the crowd - no questions asked.

Maine is one signature away from becoming the first Illegal Alien Sanctuary State in America. Immigration lawyers supporting illegal aliens are pushing Governor Baldacci to sign an executive order that will stop state agencies from questioning a person's immigration status.

Cheap?? We had a migrant worker get into an accident in his van, he went off a bridge and killed himself up here in Aroostook County last year. The state is supporting his family now for the rest of their lives. Yep. Bring in all the immigrants. ~sarcasm

You've got to be chitting me! I heard this awhile back from one of the Representatives, but I didn't really understand what they were trying to tell me. Thanks to you, Madame Dufarge, I now know!

Our wonderful state is going to hell in a hand basket..........fast! I still say Baldacci is a PLANT! He's working for Osama!
