One Trooper Reportedly Chased After Car

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said his executive detail hasn't been cited for speeding, after a published report alleged Rendell's car was clocked at over 100 miles per hours on nine occasions.

Rendell issued a statement Monday, saying that he was "not aware of any instance of my executive detail being cited for driving at unlawfully high rates of speed."

However, Rendell said he would begin to monitor the vehicle speed, and asked state Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller to "review these reports and state police policy with respect to the operation of vehicles in the executive detail."

His spokeswoman, Kate Philips, said the governor does not order his drivers to go fast.

"The governor would never ask someone to break the law," she said.

She said she could neither confirm nor deny whether the vehicle has traveled that fast, and said the governor doesn't know because he doesn't pay attention to the speedometer.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday that Rendell's police-driven car has been clocked at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour nine times since November.

Citing anonymous sources, the newspaper reported that one trooper even gave chase, but gave up when Rendell's driver identified himself as "Executive One" over the vehicle's police radio.

Rendell's state-owned Cadillac DeVille DHS is driven by state troopers assigned to his security detail.

Turnpike cops have never ticketed the governor's drivers but worry about a high-speed wreck, the newspaper reported.

Citing the sources, the Daily News said high-ranking state police officials were aware of the speeding, but state police officials declined to comment for the story.

Clocked at over 100 mph on NINE occasions means that he does it all the time. How fast can Pennsylvania voters get him out of office?

Turnpike cops have never ticketed the governor's drivers

From the Governor's web site:

“I am not aware of any instance of my executive detail being cited for driving at unlawfully high rates of speed.  I depend on my detail to drive me to and from my many appointments each day in a safe and timely manner, and they serve me well.

“In light of reports of concern for excessive speed on the turnpike, I will begin to monitor the speed that I am being driven, and I have asked Commissioner Miller to review these reports and State Police policy with respect to the operation of vehicles in the Executive Detail.”

Since the article does NOT mention party affiliation, I'll wager 10 to 1 he's a Democrat.
The laws don't apply to them, you know...

I don't care how fast you go, I just have be there YESTERDAY.

Since we have to have a Democratic governor once in a while, it might as well be Rendell. However, he is known to be highly impulsive, and there is no way he should be behind a driver's wheel, or ordering about anyone who is. His long-suffering wife will likely be glad this came out.

You bet he's a Demonrat. His wife Marjorie is a proabortion witch leader of Planned Parenthood. Fast Eddie is also Fat Eddie, eating like a hog with a multi-thousand a week budget spent on food and restaurants. He is a pig.

Don't ticket him. If we Pennsylvanians get lucky, Fast Fat Eddie may end up like Princess Diana the next time he goes through a tunnel at 100 mph.

Janet Reno has never been cited either. This made a problem with her last auto accident, when neither driver was cited. I guess nobody was at fault.

Frankly, for a woman who falls over occasionally, you wonder how she is still allowed to drive.

Oops! Wrong Demonrat wife. But Mrs. Rendell is the same--they're all cut out of the same slime mold.

I'm picturing our Ohio governor Taft. I'd make book he never goes over the "double nickels".

"Clocked at over 100 mph on NINE occasions means that he does it all the time."

Another Bill Janklow waiting to happen. I hope no innocent motorist has to die for this fool to get a clue.

I was just thinking the EXACT same thing.

Media bias? Of course not, in this case it was just not important to the story.

I love the spin in that response.
