All you can say is that there have been a lot of wrecks with light rail

Most of which were the fault of the automobile drivers, not the Metro.

something that is generally true of any city with light rail because light rail is inherently accident-prone.

No they're not. Most other cities are capable of operating their systems daily with no such problems. Idiot drivers in Houston don't seem to be very adaptable, however.

You demand that we build rail to your specifications.

Blatantly untrue.
As far as I'm concerned, Houstonians can build their light rail to whatever specifications they want.
Afterall, THEY'RE the ones who voted in favor of it.
You're just peeved because you were on the LOOSING side of the referendum.
Too bad. So Sad. But it's tough beaners for you, I guess.

Well, let's just stipulate to your assumptions for purposes of this discussion.

Given the fact that Houston has idiot drivers, light rail is not suitable for this city.

You cannot say that with certainty. All you can say is that the majority of them have been ticketted under a rigged system that always favors Metro under virtually every circumstance.

No they're not. Most other cities are capable of operating their systems daily with no such problems.

Name one then. I already provided you with the example of Portland Oregon - the supposed model light rail system in the united states that all you smart growth types are always praising. It has about 40 wrecks a year.

No. It's true, to be certain. You have never once acknowledged on any of these threads that those of us in Houston who oppose rail in our city do so with valid reasons. All you do is attempt to lecture us on either how wrong we are for opposing it or how our city must have something wrong with it for not openly embracing the thing. The simple fact is that YOU want Houston to have rail without giving a damn about what those of us who live in Houston actually think about it. So once again I ask: what gives you the right?

Afterall, THEY'RE the ones who voted in favor of it.

WRONG! Houston never got to vote on Metrorail - they built the entire thing without asking us. We tried to get a vote to no avail. Metro used the courts and political maneuvering to kill off our attempts to force a referendum three times. The only vote we ever got was after they started building it, and that was a transportation expansion package that logrolled more metrorail in with a bunch of road and bus route bonds on a day that they knew only city of houston voters would be at the polls for a simultaneous election when Harris County had none...and it still only passed with 1% of the vote!
