Flint Students Accuse Lesbians of Harassment
The Flint Journal ^ | 3/31/04 | Matt Bach

Flint -- School officials are taking action over allegations that lesbian students at Central High School and other buildings are harassing other girls.

There appear to be more complaints and rumors this year regarding lesbians fighting and sexually harassing students, said Larry Watkins, director of the office of school safety.

The school doesn't track incidents by sexual orientation, so Watkins said he doesn't know for sure if the problems are increasing. But suspensions for fighting and sexual harassment have included at least one fight between two girls arguing about a relationship, he said.

In response to concerns, the district reviewed sexual harassment policies with student leaders and school officials.

A student workshop on female aggression is slated for May, he said, and officials plan to bring in an expert next fall to talk with students about sexual harassment and same-sex harassment.

"This issue has been building up for the past three or four years," Watkins said. "It appears to be surfacing more."

But rumors that a lesbian gang is trying to entice straight girls at Central are untrue, he said. School officials haven't been able to substantiate allegations that sexual acts are going on in girls' restrooms.

"We do not have a gang of lesbians at Central High School," Watkins said. "We have may have some individuals whose sexual orientation may be questionable. But, to our knowledge, we have no known lesbian gangs at Central."

Watkins said some students have said they feel unsafe and avoid the restrooms at school because of the rumors.

Not all Central students agree.

"There are a lot of lesbian girls at Central," said senior Candice Fowlkes-Hawk. "But I've never seen any walk up and make obscene comments. I've never seen them say anything rude. They're not little hoodlums, they're just lesbians. I had a girl approach me once, and I just said I was not interested."

While the rumors focus on Central, there also have been complaints at Flint's other high schools and some of the middle schools, Watkins said. Schools are directing security officers to pay closer attention to restrooms.

"It's not like everyone is afraid to go to the bathroom," said Northern senior Chantal Cotton. "If I got to go, I go regardless if there is a gay group in there. I just politely ask them to move aside. I look at them as any other person."

The issue seems to be gaining steam in the community. The Rev. Marvin Jennings, pastor of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church in Flint, discussed it during his sermon on Sunday, and hairstylist Mezon Green said it's a common topic among her customers.

"I'm concerned about it because I don't know why the parents aren't stepping in," said Green, who has a ninth-grade son at Central. "I understand to each his own, but if that's your cup of tea, then you drink it. You don't offer it around."

Is this a script for a porno movie? Lesbian chicks in High School.

Probably a movie shown on HBO or Showtime at 2:30 in the morning.

Air America, the liberal radio network's "The O'Franken Factor," would probably like to have them as guests.

Only if they couldn't get on Howard Stern's show.

"We have may have some individuals whose sexual orientation may be questionable."

This in iself is a horrible, cruel, awful, mean, judgemental, bigoted, homophobic, anti-lesbian value judgement, meaning that a bazillion dollars had best be giving to somebody right now!

I grew up in Flint. To paraphrase Mark Twain, "If you don't mend your ways you will die and go to Hell or Flint. Pray God that it is the former!"

Married a Flint Central grad also. Hmmm--

This is a true story: 20 years ago, while a student at SUNY Albany, I ducked into a bar to avoid rain, not knowing it was a lesbian bar. Once in there I realized it was, but I didn't care. I went to the bar and ordered a drink and this really big, ugly girl started talking to me. I chatted back..it was just regular banter. Without any warning, her "girlfriend," an even bigger and uglier girl came over to me with a pool stick and started harrassing me and then about four or five other girls surrounded me and literally chased me out of the bar.

Maybe the city should consider changing the spelling to Flynt in "honor" of this man:

Yeah, like that girl on another thread who was sexually harrassed continuously by a male student, and finally decked him. She was the one who got suspended, not him.

The more you read stories such as this one, the more you think Why should public schools exist anyway? They are more trouble than they are worth.

Idiot school officials banning pink because they want to be "proactive" even though they admit there are no pink-wearing gang members in their town; 18-year-old girl can't go to the prom because she was caught smoking off school grounds, even though she's legally old enough to smoke; girls being sexually assaulted in school and no one -- the school cop, the town cops, or the district attorney want to bother with it, and now this story.

Just shut 'em down, give the parents the money, and let them worry about educating their kids. Most of the parents will do right by their kids -- the parents that don't, well their kids wouldn't succeed in school either. Write them off.

Downtown Flint is a low-density South Bronx without the charm.

I had to drive on Pierson Rd once for business once. I'll just say that I'm glad it was daytime.

What about "no child left behind"? Of course the kids with parenst that don't educated their kids well can take "the jobs that Americans don't want". Problem is that it would all be viewed as a racist action, the schools being shut down and the under-educated taking jobs from the "guest workers". Plus, don't expect the NEA to just roll over and let this happen.

Make education a priviledge, not a right. Give parents choices so their children can escape from bad schools, bad kids, and bad administrators. Who cares if it's viewed as a "racist" action? A lot of blacks would like to get their kids out of crummy schools and if they could, the race card would be the last thing on their minds. NCLB can always be repealed.

"'We do not have a gang of lesbians at Central High School,' Watkins said."

While kneeling & praying real hard. :o)

I find it absolutely *amazing* not one brainstem "educator" could've followed the insanity of their policies concerning homosexuality they've permitted into our culture to its logical end.
And now what's worse, these very same brainstem/*educators* are bringing in another *expert* to straighten things out?
God help us.

"'We have may have some individuals whose sexual orientation may be questionable.'

*Questionable*!!
How dare you, Watkins.
You're the one who's "questionable," probably a christttttiaNNNNNN too!
~ehhhh?

Well Watkins, the Flint School District hates to have to do this to you but, it's *off* to sensativity training with you and your *family*, pal.
You undoubtably have passed your *disease* onto your wife * kids so we're going to "cure" the whole lot of ya right here & now.

Scholar?
What in the hell do ya suppose is going on in Flint -- of all places -- Michigan?

Air pollution?
Lousy water?
I sure in the hell don't know.

>>Tip!<< If Flint Michigan's experience is the harbinger of a national *trend*?
Waste not another minute & buy stock in Harley-Davidson.

...now. {g}
