[Bombshell: KERRY not validly married?] MEDIA INTEREST IN KERRY’S CATHOLICISM GROWS
Catholic League ^ | April 2, 2004 | William Donohue

Posted on 04/02/2004 11:15:30 PM PST by Notwithstanding

Catholic League president William Donohue commented as follows:

“The Catholic League does not possess a theological micrometer that judges, with digital precision, how ‘good’ a Catholic is. Furthermore, it is not our business anyway. But it is also true that we will not pretend disinterest in subjects that touch on the issue of Catholics in public life.

“This week’s issue of Time magazine says Senator John Kerry ‘sought an annulment of his 18-year first marriage before marrying again.’ News reports indicate, however, that Kerry didn’t seek an annulment until after he married Teresa Heinz in a civil ceremony in 1995. Today’s New York Times says Kerry ‘sought an annulment from the church when he was divorced from his first wife.’ Notice that neither Time nor the New York Times says that an annulment was granted. They say it was ‘sought.’

“Kerry cannot claim that this is a private matter since he publicly joked about his quest for an annulment on the Don Imus show of May 8, 1997. ‘Seventy-five percent of all annulments in the world take place in the United States,’ Kerry said, ‘and I guess the figure drops to 50 percent if you take out all Massachusetts politicians.’ He continued saying, ‘It’s one of those special Catholic things. It’s like confession or feeling guilty about things you haven’t even thought of doing.’

“On February 16, 2004, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that ‘Kerry’s office didn’t respond to several e-mail and telephone requests’ regarding the question of whether an annulment was granted. On March 23, 2003, the Providence Journal-Bulletin said that Kerry ‘will not say whether he obtained an annulment of his first marriage….’ Why the reticence, especially since Kerry says his ‘current marriage is in good graces with the church?’

“Why does this matter? If Kerry did not receive an annulment, then he is not married in the Catholic Church and cannot receive the sacraments. But even if he was annulled, did he and Teresa Heinz get married in the Catholic Church following the annulment? If not, then Kerry is not married in the Church, thus raising all sorts of questions.”

I attended a Catholic church for 8 years and never had Communion in respect for the Church laws. Unless you are a Catholic in good standing you are not to have Communion, even though I am a Born Again Christian. Apparently, I had more respect for the Catholic Church than Yaaaaawn Tax & Hikerry or his Preists and Bishops?? The Rat is disgraceful!

How can you annul a marriage that has produced children?

Plenty of ways. I know of one case where the wife left and said to the husband, "I never wanted to stay married to you. I just thought we'd have great kids together." That one was annulled so fast it made heads spin. And this wasn't anyone famous nor was there any money involved. Then there was a friend of mine who's father left and that marriage was annulled based on the father not being able to make a commitment, having left the priesthood to marry.

So, see there are a lot of reasons, not just refusal of children.

I remember reading an article some time back that TAYresa insisted that he get an annulment before they married. He tried and the former Ms Kerry refused. I was wondering about the children's status also. Are they considered bastards by the Church if there was an annulment? Is he seen as an adulterer by the Church if his marriage to TAYresa is not recognized? Somehow I think anything can be accomplished in this respect with enough $$$$

After Thorne requested an increase in alimony in 1995

I thought Thorne was worth $300 million and that it was Kerry who was living off of his wife when they first married.

And .. quite frankly, I don't give a rip!

He lies so much, how would you ever know he was telling the truth? The guy lies like a rug.

John F. Kerry, "I'm a F'n Catholic & the Pope can just F-off about this abortion thing. And I'm waiting on the F'n Pope to sign my F'n annulment papers too!"

Kerry is arrogant enough it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it turns out he didn't get the annulment and has been taking the Sacraments all this time anyway

Actually you might be right! Remember the bishop who said he should be denied communion? I wonder if the bishop knows Kerry's annulment didn't go through but doesn't want to be the one to out him? If so I wish it would come out in late summer, not now.

NOT EASILY.
A HS friend of my wife and I wanted an annulment from her 1st husband AFTER having two children. They guy was creep and a loser. The Inquisition my wife went through from a bishop as to this guy's character and their marriage was like hell. A LOT of 'dirty laundry' comes out. My wife was po'd at her for a while for using her as a reference WITHOUT approval. Our friend eventually did get her annulment and subsequently remarried in Church.

It's a character issue. To non Catholics, this isn't a big deal. To Catholics who know the rules, this indicates a serious problem with this person. To us, he has no credibility as a Catholic, therefore no credibility in any other area. You know, like the Kennedys ;-)

Kerry sells himself as a Catholic candidate.

That's because JFK was a Catholic.

Also it helped Kerry in Mass. to be an Irish Catholic. But that sham has been exposed. -Tom

Kerry has chosen to run as a Catholic.
That he partakes in our Sacraments cavalierly,
tells me he doesn't give a damn about our Church;
only about the votes he hopes it will garner him.

"Maybe if Kerry murders someone with a chain saw...."

Uh, yeah, that'll do it. But he'll deny it, you just know he will.

Don't forget that Senator Heinz chastized Kerry publicly, 2 weeks before he died. I've always wanted to mention this, but didn't want people laughing at me.

and it is also a given that said sacraments are witheld in the case of civil divorce regardless of circumstance,

Not a given but an urban legend of those ignorant of Canon Law and the Catechism. A divorced Catholic who remarries without obtaining an annulment is denied the Sacraments. A divorced Catholic who does not remarry and is in a state of grace is allowed to partake of the Sacraments.

doesn't Church law forbid membership in secret societies?

Yes, it does.

Sorry for the shorthand, we were discussing a Catholic who is divorced and remarried.

Of course you are correct.

No.

By both God and the Church.

Theme song for the Kerry Campaign...

Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows,
doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo - (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro - magnifico
But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go - will you let me go
Bismillah! No - we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let me go
Will not let you go - let me go (never)
Never let you go - let me go
Never let me go - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
for me
for me
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby - can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here
Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters - nothing really matters to me
Anyway the wind blows...
