I think he's trying to watch PC on his TV. The most common reason for doing that is to watch DVDs on your TV, if you have a DVD-ROM drive.

Which is actually impossible with many video cards. It actively blocks the video for reasons of copy protection. You'll see the DVD player open, but there will only be a black box on screen.
