ARCTIC MAN: Veteran McClurg, rookie Horton hope for perfect match.

Missy McClurg tows her partner Suki Horton during an Arctic Man training run on Prator Lake near Houston last week. Though it was Horton's first time being pulled behind a snowmachine, she's comfortable with fast runs. Horton was the top female Alaskan at the U.S. Alpine Championships at Alyeska last month.

I was just there a couple of hours ago, This is going to be an interesting year, 6 feet of snow in the last week and extreme avalanche danger. Fun!

Are they talking about the Summit Lake at Hatcher Pass?

Yep. I hear ya. .... Instead, I'm off to get on my skis along the coast. Probably do Earthquake Park to Westchester Lagoon and back. ...Nothing like sun softened snow under Fischer E-99's to clear the mind and stave off the belly. With luck, I'll see a moose.

Thanks, that makes more sense. I don't get that far south very often and have never been there but I was at Hatcher Pass once and that Summit Lake is tiny and in the middle of nowhere.

Oops, hold on gang. Arctic Man is on the Richardson Highway north of GlennAllen and near the Denali Highway intersection.

I knew this would be a problem. According to my topo listing, there are 9 Summit Lakes in the state. The Daily Worker should have, at least, said which one.

It must be the one just north of Paxson.

Yep, you got it.... Paxson area.

Anyway, it is a fun gig and a neat little slice of life, in my opinion. Hot tubs on trailers, plenty of good ol' fashion debauchery, slednecks and the girls that chase them, sunburns, etc... Nothing like the smell of a 2-stroke doing its thing. I know one of the main reasons I like it so much is because of how much the helmet law type nanny state pukes hate it.

So, think snow... ergh, I mean sunshine.
