Fallujah, Iraq-AP -- Hundreds of residents of Fallujah, Iraq, are again streaming from the city, as a tenuous cease-fire between coalition forces and insurgents remains in place.
An Associated Press reporter notes the streets are largely deserted, except for those who are fleeing for the perceived safety of the outskirts of the city.
Meanwhile, skirmishing goes on. In one incident today, U-S Marines shot and killed two insurgents who were trying to set up a machine gun on a street. Then, an ambulance pulled up and a man jumped out, trying to collect the weapons of the deceased rather than their bodies. That man was shot as well.
Marine commanders acknowledge the misuse of ambulances is a challenge, knowing that many emergency vehicles are needed for legitimate purposes.

This is good news. The more people leave the more people will be told not to f... with the Americans....."they will/can destroy your town".

This makes it sound like we're using common sense... nice!

This seems to me the best reason that this cease fire should continue for now: allow the women and children to leave the city in a controlled way, so that their belongings can be searched, so that within a week or so, no one can complain that we haven't allowed the innocent to leave. Sieges used to take a long time. A week or so will mean little if, in the end, those who want to fight are exterminated.

It seems like normal Iraqis want nothing to do with these idiots. Using ambulances to ferry weapons around is wrong on so many levels. Where is the UN condemnation of that? What about the human rights groups? This would be front page news on every network across the world if American soldiers used ambulances like this.

We should urge civilians on loudspeakers to leave so we can raze Fallujah the way the Russians razed Grozny. That will put the eternal fear of God into the terrorists and jihadists in the Sunni Triangle. It will be a long time before they dare to touch the American "Strong Horse" again.

Brokaw would guffaw for an hour if we faked ambulance use in order to kill the enemy...
Might be worth a try!

How can there be "outrage" over the use of ambulances like this when the Palestinians do it all the time? The UN would NEVER wanna interfere with anything that could reflect badly on "buddy-pal" Arafat and his pieces of scum.

That technique didn't seem to work out so well for the russians.

And this from Al-Jackzero today:
The operation has been conducted with mathematical precision to inflict the maximum amount of pain. Were not talking about liberation any more; this is all about payback. The entire city of 300,000 has been surrounded with razor wire, cutting off both medical and food supplies. This allows the Marines to pick and choose their fights and crush the resistance on their own timetable.
As one anonymous Marine said, We have engaged the enemy in many firefights, and not lost one of them.
