BISBEE - Fourteen years after the last Bisbee area Boy Scout won the scout's highest honor, an Elfrida high school student is seeking to become the area's next Eagle Scout.
Aaron Oertel, a scout for the last 11 years, said he has been working on the Eagle Scout project for the last six months.
Oertel is not suppose to do the work. He is in charge of supervising the project, as well as being the primary organizer.
The monument Oertel is working on will revolve around true heroes such as police officers, teachers, firefighters and people in the military.
Kerry Feldman, scout master for Troop 401, said becoming an Eagle Scout is the doctorate of scouting.
"It shows future employers that you stuck with something," Feldman said.
Oertel, as a scout, has earned 21 merit badges, 11 which were required.
Oertel said naming his project "True Heroes" had a lot to do with patriotism.
"I decided there was a lack of patriotism in my generation," he said. "It means a great deal to me."
It is the goal he set for himself many years ago.

A tale of a young man who values Patriotism. He learned it Scouting.
There's hope for tomorrow with young men like this.
Sorry if there's any duplicate names in the posting as I'm using my Scout List and an FR compatriot has asked while she takes a little respite, that I include her ping list in any pings that I send out.
