WHO lured a poor bankrupt dairy farmer onto this dangerous region, with a promise of $100,000.oo, for a year as a fuel truck driver. No one "lured" him into anything. He did it on his own. Maybe you don't understand but that's life. People make choices in life. He knew how dangerous it would be in Iraq but he chose to go anyway.
Many people have health problems and get into financial difficulties and don't end up in Iraq. You make it sound as if someone didn't tell him the truth about what to expect. All he had to do is tune in to any news channel to know what was going on. People get killed in a war. That's a fact of life also.
I appreciate OUR military and what they do. That is what makes America great. We have brave men and women who VOLUNTEER to keep us FREE. THANK GOD FOR THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES!

Oh, Janette, take your silly histrionics elsewhere. BTW, your tagline is absurd.

"' Don't tell me, that all of these young people went to the Army, to be good Americans to defend their country.... My daughter 'went to the Army, to be good Americans to defend their country....' so you could have the privilege to post your condescending remarks on the internet. Remember to vote democrat so this little oasis of freedom of speech will be taken away from you and you will no longer be able to state your views on an internet site. Isn't it nice to know that a bunch of 20 something year olds are protecting your right to trash them? Thanks for your non-support.

There's a huge difference between being a Republican and a Conservative. The Republican party just happens to be the party which mostly advances the conservative agenda. You can be a Republican and be a liberal as well. Which, from your posts on this thread, you most certainly are a loathsome liberal.

Ab-so-damn-lotely!
And you know what, it's time we started saying that more and more.

They went because lot's of them are desperate to do a living and somehow earn some money to create a family or get an education. You don't know what the hell you are talking about. They didn't go because they "are desperate to do a living".

for a long time, I was a single Mom with two little children. My parents took care for them, while I was working full time.
Then, 22 years ago I met my second husband (physicist and mathematician) and we started as a full family with 2 little children and 24 German Marks!!!($12 at that time), following his first salary our life got better and then after 3 more years we got our 3rd child.
So don't think, I spend all my life in college or University.

It figures, you're flying the German flag. You're a socialist commie lover. You don't belong here. In my four years posting, I have never did this, but you are no conservative American, you are a europeon troll, (yes spelt correctly) and you disgrace this site. After we, the Americans saved your country, this is what you think? Get lost. loser.
Moderator, this troll, is a europeon loser. It's alright that we save their butts, but now, 60 years later, they forget what America did for them. This troll is not worthy of this forum. I am actually sickened and ill from this person. This europeon needs to be escorted out. Thank you.

Howlin, I deeply apologize, if I said something hurting your peoples feelings about going to war.
I still try to understand, what's going on and I'm so deeply involved because I love this land and it's people.

America is not that destitute. It is the land of opportunity --- ask the immigrants coming here. We have a volunteer service (I strongly object to the draft) and two of my sons are in the military. Never would I humiliate them or dishonor them or proclaim them fools for joining.
To: janette
You don't deserve to be an American citizen! All you want are the benefits without the sacrifice, just like most European whiners.

"
I'm puzzled as to how entering the National Guard, a one-weekend-a-month deal, would provide "direction." "
Before you do the one-weekend-a-month deal, you go through Basic Combat Training, just like any other soldier. Then you go through Advanced Individual Training. My son is training as a combat medic.By the time he graduates in July he will be a certified EMT & a paramedic; IOW, he is learning skills that will serve him well in civilian life after his 6 year commitment to the Army is completed.
He joined partly because of a desire for some "direction", partly because of the education benefits, and most importantly, because of a desire to serve his country.
Whether he will end up back in college next fall, doing his one-weekend-a-month gig, or in a far-off country somewhere patching up wounded soldiers is unknown at this time. He is prepared for whatever Uncle Sam has in store for him.

I tell my Army son in Germany every time he calls "DO NOT marry a German girl!"
