It's tax day -- where's the party?! [FReep "Flip Flop" Kerry - at the POST OFFICE on April 15?]

Here is an interesting article from LAST YEAR:

It's tax day -- where's the party?!
Strolling musicians? Guys in gorilla suits? Last-minute crunch turns April 15 into a carnival day.
April 15, 2003: 3:31 PM EDT
Leslie Haggin Geary, CNN/Money Staff Writer

New York (CNN/Money) - Why let something like taxes get in the way of a good time?

As last-minute filers flood into post offices nationwide, they're finding a diverse collection of groups marking Tax Day in grand style.

Picketers will be protesting taxation. Marketers will be giving away free samples. And of course, there will be millions of actual taxpayers, who are expected to race to 38,000 post offices nationwide to mail their returns by midnight.

Snapple is just one company using tax day to promote its brand.
Snapple is just one company using tax day to promote its brand.

The rush "won't tax the nation's mail system," says U.S. Postal Service Spokesman Mark Saunders, who apparently can't resist a good pun -- nor the opportunity to point out that despite its efforts on April 15, the postal service is not directly supported by tax dollars.

Many offices will be open right up to the midnight deadline.

(To find post offices in your area that are open late call 800-ASK-USPS or go online at www.usps.com, to find a location nearest to you and their hours of operation.)

Parties, protests and many other possibilities

Events at post offices aren't sponsored by the mail service. But since the sidewalks and other areas around the buildings are public property, anyone can show up.

And they do. In droves.

"April 15 has come to have a carnival atmosphere," agrees David Mazer, manager of public affairs for the Southern California Postal Service...

Why not FReep John Kerry...
...at the POST OFFICE on April 15?
Our good FRiend TED HAYES has always taught that to get MAXIMUM IMPACT for a FReep...
...we should plan our event where the media will ALREADY be.
And on April 15, the media will already be...
...at the POST OFFICE!
This could be an EXCELLENT opportunity to get our "anti-Kerry" message into the media.
John Kerry says:
"Read My FLIPS:
NO YES New Taxes!"
We could create an image in the media that connects John Kerry with both TAXES and "Flip Flops."
What say YOU?

I got this idea from Los Angeles GOP leader Renee Orefice:
Los Angeles Team Bush Members:

Good afternoon everyone...

We have been asked to produce an Anti-Tax rally here in Los Angeles this Thursday, April 15th. Our rally, similar to the ones being set-up in every major media market, is to help draw attention to Senator John Kerry's horrible tax policies. Please note that this will not be an official Bush Cheney nor a Republican Party event, rather a "lower taxes", no new taxes event.

Our rally will take place at the US Postal Office located at Jefferson and Sepulveda. It's the main sectional facility called Inglewood/Marina Del Rey but it's actually off Jefferson. Right across from Loyola Marymount College. There's also a Home Depot across the street so it has two large corners perfect for a rally event. The media will be there because it's the only facility in LA accepting mail until 11:59 pm for last-minute tax filers. I expect to be there at 9:30 and would encourage everyone else to be there at that time as well. It will most likely occur from 9:30PM to 11:15PM Thursday evening.

With a large showing, it is almost certain that we will get some TV coverage. As Bush Team Members, it is important that you attend and that you find SEVEN other individuals to attend as well. Please email Renee Orefice... ...as soon as possible to let me know who you able to find to attend our rally. I will be tracking attendees and help find available car pooling if needed.

Ideally I'd like to have the name, email address and phone number of the folks attending. I have some Bush Cheney signs I will bring and I have some homemade ones too. Things like "thanks Mr. President for giving my parents a break" Any additional homemade creative signs would be appreciated.

Stay tuned for more information and please start working on finding your rally attendees. Feel free call me with any questions...

Thank you very much for helping make this project a successful one.

Renee Orefice

Time to Go Back on the Offensive -- Immediately!

The Democrat strategy is clear -- keep the focus off Kerry for as long as possible; keep Kerry under the radar and out of the view of voters for as long as possible.  That's what all the Richard Clarke, 9/11 Commission, Condi Rice garbage is all about.  And we have to stop it now...

-- snip --

The only way to win is to set the agenda.  The spotlight must be re-focused on Kerry as soon as possible.  We need to stop letting ourselves get distracted... - jmstein7

I [RonDog] should have a giant version of THIS sign back from the printer soon:

IMHO, we need to FOCUS on John Kerry's "flip flops."
This will help prevent him from "moving to the middle" (i.e., "flip flopping") - and force him to defend his VERY LIBERAL voting record.
He is VERY vulnerable to the kind of attack already underway - all across the USA - HERE:

Sandal whappers serenade Kerry

Reporter's Notebook

By Gregory Korte and Cindi Andrews
The Cincinnati Enquirer

John Kerry had seen the tactic before - it emerged on the campaign trail last week - but few others seemed to understand what was going on.

Young Republicans wearing cheap sandals got in the front row and started clapping them together almost as soon as the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Sawyer Point on Tuesday.

Their message: that Kerry has flip-flopped on the issues...

Pathetic Kerry Condemns "Rude" GOP Protestors
April 7, 2004

Kerry's playbook is so old and he is so dishonest, it can be infuriating. But there's a simple way to listen to liberals without tearing your hair out, and that is this: everything liberals accuse Bush of, is what they do themselves. So when Kerry talks about the politics of lying, he's telling us what Democrats do. He's identifying his own tactics. As an example, consider Kerry's freak-out at a group of protestors waving flip-flop sandals at Kerry's Cincinnati speech.

As you can hear in the audio link below, this man who protested the Vietnam War and whose party has defined patriotism as requiring dissent, grumbled, "Obviously some young Republicans proving that they are very rude and they have no manners." Oh, the power, my friends! I am paralyzed here with how impressed I am by his retort. Why, what a way to shut them down! Not only calling them "rude" but "very rude!" This is so pathetic!

Chadworth worked the crowd with his famous layered message board.

He also provided our rally with a HUGE pair of flip-flops to let the Kerry crowd know what to expect from their candidate in the future...

In the words of X-42, "Ah feel yo' pain!"
That, of course, is the point of this proposed FReep:
connecting the PAIN of paying taxes with John Kerry.
What do you imagine would happen to your tax burden under President (God forbid!) Kerry?

Point of clarification. The anti tax rally tomorrow night cannot be an "official" event. It is an anti tax rally "against" John Kerry.

The media will be at two locations the evening of Thursday, April 15th.

LAX area, Airport Station, 9029 Airport Blvd. It's located off Century Blvd. This facility will close at 11:00pm.

Marina Del Rey/Inglewood facility, known as the Alla Vista Station, is located at 13031 Jefferson Blvd off Lincoln Blvd. This one closes at 11:59 pm. This one has the most access for rallies.

I think it would be great to have folks at both locations starting at 9:30pm. This will hit the 10:00 news on channel's 5, 9, 11, 13.

I was told 2, 4 and 7 will be live at the Marina Del Rey facility at 11:00pm since this location stops accepting mail at 11:59pm.

Tax Procrastinators Have Their Day
April 15, 2004

It's Tax Day, April 15, and an estimate 30 million Americans still haven't filed their income tax returns.

The IRS warns that rush to meet the deadline can cause errors, often very simple ones such as neglecting to sign the return or bungling the Social Security number.

H&R Block chief executive Mark Ernst said there are also more costly mistakes, including opting for the standard deduction if you can itemize or failing to pay the complicated alternative minimum tax, an extra tax that some people with a lot of deductions are required to pay.

Dave Cohen of CBS radio affiliate WWL-AM asked last-minute filers outside an H&R Block office in New Orleans why they waited.

"It's just something I've fought all my life."

"That's the deadline, but if you owe money, you wait until the last minute."

"I'm a chronic procrastinator. That's all there is to it. No excuse."

"I'm a procrastinator and because it's fun."

"I can use that money. Sometimes, I need that money. The government, they got plenty of money."

"I was on vacation, and then all of sudden it's like BAM! 'Got to do it.'"

The Postal Service was gearing up for an onslaught of late mailers, with longer hours at many post offices and some stunts to mark Tax Day:

A postal worker was being stationed at the Fort Wayne, Ind., Coliseum to accept tax returns before that evening's "Disney On Ice" show. The first 50 characters handing in their returns there were to receive backstage passes to meet the show's characters.

There will be a mobile post office at the Erie, Pa., Sea Wolves home opener to accept tax returns, and a junior orchestra will play at the main post office.

The Arlington, Va., community of Clarendon was holding its annual Tax Blues festival, music, dancing, and food, right next to the post office.

At the Mansfield, Ohio, post office, which will remain open until midnight, customers were being offered hot dogs, popcorn, health screenings and even stress massages.

A local radio station was sponsoring a dunk tank with an IRS agent in the cold seat at the San Mateo, Calif., post office.

Taxpayers looking for a post office with extended hours can call 1-800-ASK-USPS. The USPS Web site, www.usps.gov, promises information on which offices are open late, but the information could not be found there.

But not as many post offices were staying open until midnight as in previous years, and not as many post offices will have IRS agents available to help last-minute filers — possibly a reflection of the growing use of electronic filing.

CBS News Correspondent Dan Raviv reports the IRS estimates that the average time to gather all your records and forms, and fill them out, if you itemize deductions is 28 hours and 30 minutes. That's 42 minutes more than it took last year, and more time than is left now.

However, if you need more time, you can always get a four-month extension from the IRS. But that only buys you more time to file your return. Any money that's owed is still due now.

By midnight.

And, from www.californianonline.com:
Tonight is last to file tax returns

The Salinas Californian

Time doesn't stand still, and the dreaded day is here -- the day to pony up to the Tax Man.

Midnight is the deadline to file federal and state income tax returns.

If you haven't already done the annual chore, you're not alone. In California, postal authorities expect to see about 9 million tax returns today.

"It's heavy. Not as heavy as Christmas, but it's heavy," said Gus Ruiz, a Postal Service spokesman in San Jose. "The folks who wait probably owe money."

In every major metropolitan area, the Postal Service keeps strategically located post offices open until midnight to accommodate last-second filers.

The Salinas post office at 1011 Post Drive will be the only late-night drop-off point in Monterey County.

"It's usually a circus atmosphere," Ruiz said.
